1a(i)-The Mainstream audience is the largest of the groups. They are very family oriented and normal. They include themselves in activities that most people find socially acceptable, for this reason I think the media text they would consume the most would be Coronation Street. I think this because it is aired just after dinner when the children are getting ready to go to sleep and also because it is played religiously, satisfying their need for ‘security’.
1a(ii)-The Succeeder audience are very driven and have a goal oriented life. Unlike the Mainstream they most probably don’t have children due to their busy lifestyles and need for change. Because of this I think they would consume social media the most such as Facebook and Twitter because they are always on the go and they need a way to stay connected with colleagues and friends. As they like to have the best things on offer because they feel they deserve it they will also have the best technology on the market to go on said social networking sites with.
1a(iii)-The Aspirer audience are very materialistic and superficial. They care about what people think of them a lot and enjoy looking good. Because of this I think they would enjoy consuming the magazine Vogue. I think this because it includes high-end clothes and advertisements which in turn make the audience feel sophisticated. It also includes beautiful models whom they aspire to be like.
1a(iiii)-The Explorer audience enjoy discovering new things and exploring new experiences. Because of this I think they would enjoy consuming indie movies such as Juno. I think this because they would feel they are achieved something by finding it and enjoying it, they can then recommend it to their friends and sound ‘cool’.
1b-I think that this way of categorizing audiences certainly has it’s pros and cons. On one hand it is pretty accurate with The Mainstream model because a large proportion of the population do just want to fit in with society but some of them may also come under another model such as The Succeeder and the method doesn’t accommodate merging two audience classifications together
1c-At the moment ‘The Big Bang Theory’ currently on. I think that the typical audience member for this show would be in their early 20‘s because the show is aired on E4 which is a channel aimed at younger adults. I also think the show is aimed at women more than men as well because they show is very friendship and relationship orientated.
1d-I think the show Coronation Street would attract ‘traditionalists’ because the show is very repetitive in the story line and not much changes in the show, satisfying their need for everything to be the same. I think social networks such as Facebook and Twitter are likely to attract ‘trendies’ because people who post and tweet a lot are looking for admiration and acceptance from their peers. I think people who are likely to read Vogue are ‘groupies’ because they are looking for acceptance from society and looking beautiful does that. Lastly I think people who watch Juno are likely to be ‘drop outs’ because they can relate to it.
