As with any film, a trailer is one of the
most important forms of advertising. As is the case of Slumdog, the trailer had
overall Indian vibe to instantly create the atmosphere. We are instantly
uplifted, and the sense of ‘routing’ for the main character is created.
In a modern society, it is unsurprising that
online social media is one of, if not the biggest form of advertising. Fox
Searchlight proves mode of the information on their website regarding the film
and the stars that appear in it. We are also given a short description of what the
film is about, so for those less knowledgeable they are able to get a feel for
the film.
Places like Facebook or Twitter offer a much
more informal marketing strategy for the film; as this is where most of the
everyday fans will be able to connect with the film. Facebook, with it’s over
three million fans regularly posts behind the scenes videos and photographs,
allowing fans to delve deeper into the film. Fans are also able to take part in
a quiz, thus they are actively allowed to use their knowledge of the film.
Twitter slightly differs, in that it posts short reviews of people who
have watched the film itself. This then perhaps gives people confidence in
wanting to watch the movie for themselves.
