The Mainstreamer is someone who sticks with the current trends. If people are talking about something you can almost guarantee that the mainstreamer will be there joining in with the conversation. Mainstreamers tend to be set in their ways and very rarely try something new or something which is out their comfort zone. An example of something a mainstreamer would consume is Game Of Thrones. Game Of Thrones is the most popular and most talked about TV show currently of television. Set in the world of Westeros it's capitulating story line, depiction of gender roles and nudity is some of the best ever. the perfect recipe for a mainstreamer.
The Succeeder is someone who constantly works at their goals. This type of person only stands for the best and doesn't accept anything less. If their is opportunity to improve and become even more powerful then the Succeeder will do it. A media text that the Succeeder would consume is The Apprentice. The Apprentice is a yearly show involving 12 business men/woman looking wo win an investment from Lord Sugar himself. The Succeeder would consume this as they can use this as a benchmark to push on and achieve their goals in life.
An Aspirer is someone who has goals in life to be as perfect looking as physically possible. Their own opinion is never really considered as they're fuelled on other peoples faults that they have as a person. Always looking to improve a media text the aspirer would consume is Britain's Got Talent as much like the contestants on the show they all aspired to be rich, famous and in some cases physically immaculate so therefore by watching this show the Aspirer can see that nothing is impossible and they can achieve anything in life.
The Explorer is someone who constantly wants something new. They prefer activity's that aren't popular and not many people no about. They're always looking to push the boundaries on what they can and cannot leading to a wonderful and adventurous imagination. An example of a media context that they would consume is the original 2008 title Mirrors Edge. Mirrors Edge is an action-adventure platformer developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts. At the time of release Mirrors Edge was a new genre of game that not many people had considered playing. The game revolves around free running in its core so the explorer and this game at the time were a perfect match.
(1b)I believe these categories are both good and bad at defining audience type. in society no one is the same so having a wide variety of ways to define people is very clever. Most categories used to describe people are all different in their own right and it allows society to fit people into a social classification plan and also fit them into where they belong. There are problems though with the system as classifications like 'The Succeeder' and 'The Aspirer' are both very similar and it can be difficult to see a marginal line. Both revolve around the idea of working at something until it is perfection. therefore if someone's goal is to work at something that involves them being amazingly attractive then which category are they. Anther problem is that is someone identifies themselves as more than one category there is no way of defining which one they truly are suggesting that the model doesn't properly work.
(1c)A program that is on television right now is EastEnders which is a soap opera and is often described as the best and most popular due to its somewhat captivating storylines. The show is on usually between 7 and 8pm therefore making it a post tea time TV show. Due to the time that its on anyone could watch EastEnders however I believe its prodomently aimed at Woman as a whole. This doesn't mean that men cant watch it but it tends to be on at the same time as the Champions league or late 7:45 kick off games meaning men would most likely be more interested in the football. A show like EastEnders means investing a lot of your time into so you can keep up with the storyline therefore women tend to have more patience as a whole and will stick by the show. The show also
features majorly problems amongst family life which women tend to specialise in.
(1d) I think that a show like Game Of Thrones would appeal the groupie as watching Game Of Thrones allows them to join into conversations with other people who watch the show therefore they will be accepted in society. Someone who watches The Apprentice would be part of the Innovators as they are the type of people who want to be rich and powerful and leave their mark on their world and by innovating they will do this. A viewer of Britain's Got Talent could possibly be Cynic or are Egoists. Cynics tend to use shows like BGT to complain about as they either have nothing else to complain about or are just jealous of people being successful. The Egoists on the other hand would watch BGT as it gives them a starting point on how people can get the most out of life and how they can possibly do it for themselves. Someone who plays Mirrors Edge could be a Drifter as Drifters don't tend to know what they want so someone who plays Mirrors Edge might be playing just for something different or to get a new perspective on life. Someone who watches EastEnders would be described as a Groupie as they want to be able to join in the conversations about what happened on the previous nights show. This allows them to understand if they fit in socially.
