Dirty Dancing Film Review

Dirty Dancing Film Review.

Set in the summer of 63 and directed by Emile Ardolino, Dirty dancing is the story of Baby (Jennifer Grey) who is a 17 year old girl who loves her father more than anything (Jerry Orbach). During her summer family vacation Baby meets Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) who is the camps dance instructor. She becomes suddenly attracted to him then falls head over heels. Johnny is instantly fed up of her however when Baby takes a risk to help out one of Johnny’s friends Penny (Cynthia Rhodes) who has just became pregnant after sleeping with one of the hotel waiters, a powerful romance occurs, which must then be hidden from the Baby's father, but can they keep it this way? Johnny becomes drawn to Baby’s fierce optimism and Baby is drawn to… well he is Patrick Swayze!

Can you figure out the rest of the plot?

The writer Eleanor Bergstein works hard to make sure that none of the characters are two-dimensional. Each one has a life, an opinion and a reasoning behind their actions. The choreography by Kenny Ortega is sensational. The moves during the dancing sequences are overtly sexual, as Swayze and Grey become more drawn to each other the dance moves become more seductive.

This doesn’t mean to say that the film is perfect. The romance between Baby and Johnny is a little too nice. The ending, while very romantic and passionate, ties things up a bit too neatly and seems to go on forever.

This is originally a low-budget film by a new studio ‘Great American Films Limited Partnership’.
