stranger things review
Netflix's new original 80s inspired series Stranger Things is one of the most talked about and loved TV shows of this year, in fact its loved so much that it has recently been renewed for a second series. It shot to popularity early this year and has had people hooked since!
Its all based around a young boy, named Will, who mysteriously disappears in a small town in Indiana, this causes distress and misery through out the town as his friends Dustin, Lucas and Mike, and family Joyce and Jonathan hopelessly search for him. It especially effects his mum, played amazingly by Winona Ryder, who starts noticing strange occurrences in the house since the disappearance, at one point she hangs up christmas lights to have contact with her son. Sounds crazy i know but the whole show is crazy yet wonderful at the same time. Not only do you get intrigued by the storyline but also the kids they bring enough comedy to add a lightheartedness to the creepy borderline psychotic show.
While the children are still trying to look for him they find a young traumatised girl along the way (played by Millie Bobby Brown) who, even though doesn't have many lines portrays the character in a way that moves the audience. Added to these central storyline are many secondary storylines that leave you on the edge of your seat, so as you can tell this series is not short of action. Even though the theme of the show is mystery there is a lot more depth to it than this, the character Nancy, Mikes sister brings a hint of love to the show as a 'friendship' quickly blossoms between both her and Wills brother, Jonathan. So it has something for everyone; love, mystery, horror and comedy, whats not to love?
The season finale leaves the audience in such an emotional state, it also leaves them with questions so it would almost be criminal for them not to have a second season! After eight episodes, Stranger Things becomes darker and more frightening than its opening suggests. Although the show is set in the 80s it seems to still fit in with todays generation and has been widely excepted by everyone from many different generations. The first season brought many shocks and suspensive moments with it and this has left me eager for more, so i for one cannot not wait to see what series 2 brings us, hopefully it lives up to the standard of the first although that would be difficult as it set the bar considerably high.
