From your research into the production of the movie, you will have learned that getting this film off the page, into the camera and onto the screen, was not the smoothest or simplest of transitions.
When distribution was finally agreed upon those that had stumped up the money wanted to be sure that they would get it back, so they spent a lot on getting this movie out there, and out there to as many people as possible.
This kind of attitude towards promoting a film does not always result in a balanced representation of the final movie... just think of Slumdog Millionaire's UK poster shouting its credentials as the: "Feelgood hit of the year" and then think of the poverty, the mutilation of children and the enslavement of young girls for the use of prostitution and you can understand why a few people may have felt a bit misled!
