Name- The monster
Artist- Eminem

Starts with a wide shot of the two main characters shown as shadows on the wall as the sun shines through the window projecting them on to the wall, it then cuts to Eminem in a therapy chair, then an over the shoulder shot so that we can see Eminem's pov of what he sees next which is a tv screen. The story is about the problems or 'monsters' that Eminem has, this is shown through the fact that he is in therapy, and dealing with the problems and then uncovering more, that he didn't know about, this is a unique video as it gets very personal, it allow the audience into a therapy session with Eminem, this wouldn't normally happen as Eminem would go to this himself, and speak to one person who wouldn't be able to tell anybody. So the fact that Eminem is allowing the audience to attend this with him really includes them and directly address them, this shows he cares for his audience. The video keeps up with the song by using jump cuts to establish new things this would be useful to use.

Name- Blank space
Artist- Taylor Swift

There are alot of jump cuts used in this video to show a number of different things, for example to introduce new characters, show different emotion (this helps emphasise how fast emotions and opinions of someone can change) also jump cuts help to establish new scenes in the music video. The is a story to this but its like every other song from taylor swift, she was in a relationship, then they broke up. this causes controversy for a number of reasons, one some people can relate to the songs and like them were as others thing that they are wrong and the situation that taylor is in should not be in a song so they don't like them and then overreact over them because they don't like them. As this is a taylor swift song and everything is overreacted about, all the situations shown in the video are over the top and this would make the audience want to watch more and see what happens next. This is a really good technique to use in a music video, because if people want to see what happens next they will want to watch the whole video through. Could be useful depending on the song and if the is a story to go with the song and how that story can be acted out.

Name- uptown funk
artist- Bruno Mars

When watching this music video the editing style used is very good and relevant and you can tell as the music video is able to keep up with the song, also whilst watching the video the are a few different types of shots used, for example the are medium close ups used to show the group together and then wide shots used when the dance. The is also alot of direct mode of address used, for example Bruno uses direct mode of address alot especially when he sings, he looks directly at the camera, using a close up to show just his face so that it is him and his audience so that the audience thing that they are getting sang to directly, he does this multiple times throughout he video. The is really a story that i could see in this video apart from Bruno liking a girl then trying to impress this girl multiple times, with a group of friends. which make the video quite controversial, because it portrays women as just objects, Bruno likes the girl and he tries to get her attention, when he fails he shouts towards her expressing that he doesn't care. He then moves on to the next girl, which is wrong and probably angered quite a few people. The thing that i like most about this music video is that its very entertaining to watch and the song is very energetic and so the video has to be to otherwise it wouldn't make sense, and so it does, it keeps up with the song, so this would be really useful if we were to use an energetic song.

Name- party rock anthem
Artists-LMFAO and Lmaa

The music video starts with a wide shot of the two main characters in hospital bed, they awake and find out there in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, only its not a zombie apocalypse everyone is dancing to music, they receive ear plugs and just have to make the 'zombies' think they are 'infected' by the music so they dance and its a very humorous video. During the times they are dancing they, dance to the camera looking into the camera using direct mode of address with there audience. Using a comedic effect on a normally horror situation juxtaposing it  makes this video unique but it still has that horror aspect and it still has a thriller aspect to the video too. By it reminding me of thriller and looking at thriller next to it the party rock anthem has some very iconic things that i thing reference to thriller, for example the 'zombies' dancing, and looking straight at the camera, this is very much like the old music video but in this music video it shows a new era and the new music that is incorporated into the spin on 'horror' in music videos. The idea that i like the most in this music video is taking something scary like a zombie apocalypse and instead of making it scary which would be easy to do they make it funny i think that this would be really useful to use.
Guilty pleasures week

My name is Connor Burke and I still like Lego and everything to do with it

This might not be that bad because it is a hobby for most people they will buy a set and build then in a few weeks it will fall apart and they will lose the piece, me no I collect the set there is a display on my shelf of all the sets I have to this date, even the ones that I have dropped and lost the pieces to, (I just show there good side), it doesn't stop at the sets, I play the games too, in my opinion the is nothing better than playing the Lego games as they are based on real movies or series but they are very comedic, especially the new Lego game 'Lego dimensions' its great the are all different shows, the Simpsons and then batman is there too, its really funny to see batman in Springfield because you normally wouldn't see him there

This is my guilty pleasure, I love Lego!!!
A text that i have consumed over the last week is assassins creed syndicate, it is a great game have completed it yet, but the game is just about getting gratification from assassinating those who are the "bad guys" its like this throughout the assassins creed series, the will be a main bad guy and a load of other bad guys who are his next in command for example and you have to take them out to get to the bad guy because the people aren't getting what they deserve, like in this assassins creed you play as twins, Jacob and Evie frye, they are both trained assassins but Jacob just wants to start a gang and goes on his own path to do that throughout London, and they are the best missions because all he does s assassinate targets but he does it the way he wants or the way the player watns you can go in and be stealthy, not be seen by anyone kill the target and get out of there undetected, or you can run in get detected kill everyone in a big fight with lots of gang members with you kill the target and then leave with everyone on the street stun at what they just saw, its really up to you, i would recommend the second one it is much more fun that way, but if you don't like the whole being seen this then Evie is the one for you, she is the real assassin she wants to live by the creed, play by the rules, and she is the best at stealth, her missions are fun but it really depends on what kind of player you are, the way i have gotten gratification out of this game is by taking out the assigned targets, it is really fun doing they way you want to. when you have killed the target or brought him back alive you really feel like you have accomplished something, you really feel like you have helped the virtual people of London.

another text i have consumed this week is Halo 5:guardians this is one of the best games i have played, the campaign ends on a bit of a weird thing but it was really fun to play, returning to the fight as the best spartan ever created, the best of the best the very first, master chief, he is the best soldier ever and carrying on the story from halo 4 where he lost his A.I. companion cortana he has been work in a squad with three other spartans, doing mission after mission then on the way through a covenant ship him thinks he sees cortana, and then the hunt begins for his A.I. but at the same time as doing this he is declared rogue and another squad is sent to bring him home, running this squad is spartan Locke, (his backstory is really hard to explain and very confusing so i don't think i can explain him) and hi and his squad have to take down the master chief and the 2 stories begin. the way that i get gratification out of this game is, well the is northing like running into battle as a spartan the best of the best especially, you can just run straight through a battle if you want shooting enemies if they get to close, knowing that you have all this power, you can kill anything, destroy a whole army with there being just 4 of you on this team, its really fun to do. then the is the online to, it is one of the best online games i have played this year too, although it is generic fps gameplay it is still really fun to play a game and with the new req system you earn points at the end of games to then open packs with that get you a variety of things, like armour weapons and kill steak awards that you can unlock whilst in games, so the that gratification is earn here is by killing other players, capturing bases and killing bosses, when you do this your req level will increase allowing you to unlock more powerful weapons, when when you get the req rank high enough you can spend your req points and unlock that weapon to use for one life so you have to use it wisely, there are 2 weapons that you can use unlimitedly the battle rifle and the smg the is also the assault rifle and the pistol, the great things about these is that in the req packs you can get variations of these and they normally come with better things like damage and attachments which make you better in game allowing you to kill more and more players giving you more and more gratification for what you have done
A piece of media that changed my life

A piece of media that changed my life is Grand Theft Auto 5 this is for obvious reasons, it is everything a game should be, the story is the best story i have played in video games since the first release of GTA, it was also released for next generation consoles (xbox one, ps4 and pc) with the first person mode, this has been done in previous games, with mods but rockstar games actually brought it out themselves, and by bringing it out for pc they allowed the modding community to do want they want on the single player, and they also added a recording section to the game, with a director mode, which allows you to record a clip with a selection of characters in the game (if you have seen the character while playing the game you can use them to play as), you record the clip, then edit it using a really good amount of editing tools and then you can put it anywhere you want, youtube, rockstar social club, even just keep it to yourself if you want to.

Another reason why GTA has changed my life is because to this day i have played a total of 29d 6h 31s which is a lot of time to be doing anything, this will have changed my life because i would have been playing this game instead of doing anything else, and the fact that GTA  is that good that it has encouraged me to buy the game twice, the limited edition first time, going to the mid-night lauch and the doing the exact same thing the next year this is how this game has changed my life and i have seen a game that is as good as it yet because with GTA you don't even have to go on the game to complete anything you can just go on the game and do anything you want, drive around, help random people in need, rob a bank, go on a killing spree, its really up to you and i don't no any other game that you can do this in

1. Find an advertising campaign that uses humour as its main persuasive device. Analyse the humour use and discuss who the target audience are using the audience classification methods we have studied.

an advert that uses humour as its main persuasive technique is the new pedigree DENTAsticks and they defend against bad breath and are good for your dog, the target audience for this product would probably be anyone who owns a dog because they would want to know that there dog is healthy and that there dog is happy, using this product will allow them to know that, they give the dog this ‘treat’ and as they chew it there teeth are made stronger, it’s good for them, it makes them work for their food and they won’t have bad breath when eating this so this would be a win for a dog owner. The type of people that this product would appeal to would be the explorer, this is because they are something new and they would want to see if there dog would like them and if they would help their dog in anyway, it would also appeal to mainstreamers, this is because they would know exactly what they’re getting and exactly what there and they know that it would be safe and they could do what every other dog owner does and make sure there dog is healthy. It might also appeal to the resigned how normally older people are and they are driven by the need for safety so this would reassure them as they know it would keep their dog healthy and safe.

 2. Write down a slogan for a product recently advertised. Analyse the language devices used to say why it is an effective and memorable slogan - how does it speak to an audience?

a slogan used recently that I have heard is “it’s in the game” this is commonly used in EA games more specifically in EA Sports games, if you play any sports games like fifa for example you will hear this or see this every time you play the game, and it normally gets a reaction out everyone, you either like the slogan and say it every time you see it or hear it, or you hate it because of what EA are known for, but that would be up to the reader, the reason EA use this slogan it because it has been in nearly every game they have produced to date, so it is fair to say that it is well known among, gamers and people who see adverts for EA games, by saying “it’s in the game”, EA are saying that everything is the game you have the potential to do whatever you want you this is probably best shown in the game fifa, a football simulator type game you can be the manager of a club and make it the best in the world, or use a mode called ultimate team and make a lot of virtual money by buying packs with real money and selling players in those packs to get more virtual money so you can buy players to use to make the best team ever and verse other players or friends, or you can sell them for virtual money. This slogan speaks to the audience because it doesn’t really involve them in the slogan but they know that it is directed at them and that if they try hard enough, put enough time it and spend enough money they can be the very best.

3. Find an advertising campaign that uses shock tactics - analyse why an audience would find it so shocking?

This is an advert to make people stop buying product made from animals in any way from the fur just being cut off to them being killed for their skin, this just outlines the fact that if the blood where on our hands we would not buy half the things we do because they are made from dead animals and if we knew about it we probably wouldn’t buy the products, so this advert shocks the reader so they pay attention to the advert and so that they stop buying as many things made of animals and start being more aware of the things around them and realise that eventually animals will run out, and they will become extinct and we will then miss out because we were so careless that we killed son many animals just for a scarf.

4. Find an advert which stereotypes a group of people, what stereotypes are there in the advert?

This advert is stereotypical because it enforce the idea that men are stronger than women because it this advert the is a man holding down a woman and it looks like she can’t do anything about it, the is also 3 other men in the background, all of them look strong too and the is one shirtless who looks like the stereotypical person who goes to the gym, while the woman is being held down it looks like she is struggling a bit which would suggest that the man is holding her down with some force, reinforcing the idea that men are strong than women which isn’t always the case.

5. Find an example of intertextuality used in an advert, how is it used - who will recognise the reference?

An example of intertextuality in adverts is Gary lineker, he is used in the walkers crisps advert, he is used in this but when people see him they think of him as an ex-footballer, they don’t think of him as the guy from the walkers adverts, they think of the football player who played in the world cup multiple times for England and that’s what people think of when they see this person in a walkers advert.

6. Find an example of elite persons being used in advertising. What do they represent to the audience, why have they been used?

H&M used 2 stars in there new clothes they chose to use Kevin Hart, a comedian who nearly everyone knows for being so funny, and probably the most well-known footballer ever, David becakham in this advert it is kind of like a behind the scenes of the photo-shoot that was taken of the both of them and Kevin hart is trying to ‘get into character’ and be like David beck ham and it just turns out being a really funny advert as you can see from the screenshot, David is having an ice bath and Kevin wants to have a go, he gets in then jumps right back out.

7. Find an example of 'reward & punishment' persuasion in current campaigns. What ideologies are being rewarded and which punished

The way that this is a rewards and punishment persuasion is because when you smoke you punish yourself and you know you do, but by stopping you are eventually able to reward yourself because you will be extending your life just by not smoking and you will also be able to reward you self with the money you save being able to get better things as you won’t be spending it on cigarettes. By looking at this advert to if you are a smoker you will realise by smoking you are not just harming yourself, you are, harming everyone around you, it is also said that second hand smoke it worst that the actual cigarette, so by someone quitting they will also be able to, reward all them around them with extended life too as they won’t be inhaling second hand smoke anymore.
Name of text : grand theft auto V

Audience classification for gta 5:

The audience to this text it everyone now, everyone plays gta because it is a great pass time, and it allows you to do anything you want, unlike the real world and thats why people play this game because you can literally do anything you want, this is way people in the mainstream category like it so much they know exactly what there getting and enjoy doing that, they understand what they get when buying this game so they understand the is no risk in doing so, on the other hand this piece of text would also be enjoyed by people in the explore category, this is because you can do everything you want in this game, and so much more, after the story is complete or even before then you can free roam around this virtual world, explore the 1000 of miles all around los santos, therefore it would appeal to the explorer because the it a lot to  do in this giant virtual world and you can do exactly what you want. this text would appeal to the aspirer as well, because as well as the story the is an online mode where you can play with other player and compete against them to get money, and the aspirer wants to be better then every body else, they want to have the highest level, the most money and the fastest cars, this mode would be allow them to do this because, they can play to get the best things with there friends or against there friends, they would be able to know that they where the best out of everyone and they would also be able to show the random people all the cars they have the apartments they have, they would be able to show them self off giving them self more of a name in the gta universe. The kind of people who play this game will want the best things straight away this it so they can look better than everybody else and this is also hard to do, so the people who mostly play online would be described as cowboys, the one who want to make money, as easily and fast as possible and they will do anything to get in missions, races, even take down bounties set on peoples heads just to get a couple of thousands of dollars.
name of the text: John Wick

date/time: saturday 2nd october, 7:00pm

where did you find it: i saw the trailer on television and wanted to see it so i got the DVD and decided to watch it

genre: action thriller.

what is the purpose: the audience is surpose to enjoy the film as the story is done really well, a retired hitman out for revenge on the people who killed his dog and stole his car, it is a really well set up film, John Wick a retired hitman has just watched his wife died from an incurable illness and he is really down, then the is a knock at is door, a package sent to him by his wife, its a beagle puppy, and a letter from his wife, he doesn't really connect with the dog at first, then he spend the whole day with it and he is happy again, then things go wrong... but you will have to watch it if you want to know what happens next.

target audience: i would probably say older people because the violence it a bit graphic, but apart from that i dont see how anyone one wouldn't enjoy this film.

my reaction to this text: i really enjoyed this film, i loved it, the wasn't a dull moment in it.  i dont think i could fault it in any way at all, Keanu reeves is casts as john wick in his epic return to action films and judging this film further i would say that the is another one on the way very soon, and if the is i cant wait for it, as long as it lives up to the name now that i have seen the first film in hopefully a franchise.

why would people consume the text: they would want to watch it because it appeals to all different types of people, for example the mainstream person, it would apply to them because its an action thriller, they know exactly what there getting, and they would feel safe in watching this. it would also appeal to the explorer because it was marketed as 'a new take on the action thriller' this would make them want to explore this piece of text and they would probably watch and enjoy this.

can people react differently to this text? how?
yes some people would love this film like me and take a lot away from it and understand the story really well, but some people wouldn't enjoy it at all, they wouldn't like the violence they might think its too violent and not want anyone to see it because it might make them violent too.

Game review

Batman Arkham Knight

This is the 3 game in the franchise developed by rock-steady (past titles include batman: Arkham asylum, and batman: Arkham city) following up from the events of batman asylum scarecrow is back and is once again threatening the city batman has sworn to protect and so he shall, this time Arkham is much bigger spreading across 3 different islands and looking stunning despite the map size, but as the map has gotten bigger batman can’t get around as easily anymore he needs something to get around quicker, so rocksteady introduced the first drivable batman-mobile in the game series. This was possibly the greatest decision rocksteady made for the games series, fans of batman has always wanted to drive there every own bat mobile (I know I have) and now they can, the only fault I can come up with is the only thing it is really used for, destroying unmanned tanks which becomes very competitive over time, it’s just the same thing over and over, however it is still very fun. Also the is some parts of the story where you have to get behind a certain type of tank to destroy it which means you have to be stealthy, not allowed to be seen as on shot from this tank causes critical damage this was also very annoying until you find out that the tanks are on a specific path then you can destroy them easily.

***SPOILERS***
As this game is following up from the last, the story carries on to the joker is dead and batman still feels guilty about his death, and because he has been injected with fear toxic from scarecrow he can now see the joker running around with him, which is a nice feature in my opinion, this is because he’s in your head messing with you but it’s hilarious because in the last game he sent his infected blood to a lot of hospital infect people with killing them so batman has to stop it, and he did but three people got infected so batman contained them and he runs test on them to find a cure, quite predictably Harley Quinn breaks them out part way through the game and you have to get them back, but the is one part of this that is my favourite part of the game, one of the jokers was a singer before he got infected he runs in to a room with a turn table with bombs planted everywhere and a bomb put on his chest, he invited batman in to the stages and music comes on as the infected joker passes batman he turns into the real one because batman is struggling with the toxin but it is a real funny part because of the song that is being sung by the joker, with him still being in the game made me and a lot of fans really happy.
They are a lot of other villains in Arkham too, two face who has decided to rob a load of banks and you have to stop him, after stopping 3 he turns up to the last one and you beat him and put him in Gotham city jail, hush, he decides to take all of Bruce wayne money, the riddler, he has set up lots of riddler challenger all around Gotham and he has also captured cat woman, you have to complete 9 challenges to get keys to get the explosive collar off her, when you get cat woman free (eventually) you get to fight him, for 2 seconds then he says “you want to fight me batman?, you must earn the honour to do so” “complete all of my challenges”. And the are many more.

The main villain is scarecrow he has infected all of Gotham (apart from those who got out) with his fear toxic, which makes everybody  see their worst fear, the is also another villain called “the Arkham knight” he knows everything about batman the weak points in his suit, his past, his fighting moves, his real identity. Find out who this person was, was really surprising to me, I’m not going to tell you go and play the game, but looking at other reviews people have been saying it was very obvious, but it wasn’t for me, I liked the surprise.

The last thing I would like to say about the story is about the ending of the game, is quite sad not the actual ending but the wont be another game after batman: Arkham knight this is the last one, I’m not going to give the ending away but I’ll let you guess what happens or go and get the game it is one of the best out this year.

Finally I would rate this game 8/10 this is because the was a few easily found bugs at the start of the game (they has been fixed now) but apart the game is one of the best I have played this year definitely in my top 5 games of the year.
