‘A condition, episode, person or group of persons emerge to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests; its nature is presented in a stylised and stereotypical fashion by the mass media; the moral barricades are manned by editors, bishops, politicians and other right thinking people; socially accredited experts pronounce their diagnoses and solutions; ways of coping are evolved.’
Stanley Cohen

"The new moral panic lay not so much in the rise of ISIS, but rather the realisation that young British Muslims have joined their ranks, and that they were prepared to share with the social media savvy and other politically disillusioned young Muslim People in the UK the results of their 'work'".

Slumdog Millionaire
The idea for this film first came from a book called Q & A by Vikas Swarup. The screen writer for this film was Simon Beaufoy. Simon is a huge screenwriter and as done other popular film such as, Hunger Games, 127 Hours and Everest. He was a big part of the success of this film. Simon took the book Q&A and adapted it and made varies changes. He managed to reduce 12 stories into one narrative. To help Simon write the screen play he lived in Mumbai for months at a time so he could soak up the atmosphere and lifestyle of Mumbai and interpret that into the film to make it as real as possible as he wanted to make the audience seem like they are in the city of Mumbai.

The production company that help fund the film were Film 4. Film 4 is a movie channel that shows a range of different movies that have different genres. Film 4 often show very niche films that have a specific audience that are away from the mainstream. They often show human dramas which are based more on characters and relationships than big action and special effects. The films on Film 4 tend to be very artistic and low budget. The budget for Slumdog Millionaire was 15 Million USD, which is very little compared to other films. Having Film 4 has the production company has many constraints such as Film 4 is seen as one little film channels so not many people will go there to watch a film, which doesn’t make the film a mainstream film.

The equipment that was initially going to be used to shoot this film was a 35MM film camera. However this gave the film a static feel to it as it involved a lot of movement so they decided to use digital cameras instead as they are a lot more maneuverable because a lot of the shots involve a lot of movement.

The whole film is set in Mumbai. There was no sets used to film on the streets, it was all done by shooting on location. Mumbai is very active and busy so shooting on location would have came with many difficulties, One difficulty is when a film crew start using these massive cameras and film equipment to film the locals think its a celebrity around so they stand there and watch the cast film, this can course trouble for the crew as thousands of people can be attracted so if they film they have to make sure there is no one in the background getting in the way. Another problem the crew faced was if one day they went to film a scene on location and then the next day they want to film at the same location it became a problem because walls and roads would get built over night causing the shot to be different and then the film crew have to re film the whole scene.

The director of this film is Danny Boyle. Boyle is know for many other low budget films such as Trainspotting and 28 days later. Danny is a very passionate about is job and is used to filming on low budgets which made him the perfect director. During filming Danny was very committed to created realism and authenticity and getting the audience to feel like they are on the streets of Mumbai. Danny brought his passion to the film by filming day and night until he got the right shot. He was very interactive with the cast, he was very involved with them, He was also very organised and adaptable, he held rehearsals for the film and used the footage from the rehearsals into the film. He made the film.

Research - Moral Panic - Richard Dyer - Sterotypes

Richard Dyer - The Role of Stereotypes

"Stereotypes are a form of 'ordering' the mass of complex and inchoate data that we receive from the world are only a particular form"

"The word stereotype is almost a term of abuse"

"Stereotypes are a very simple, striking, easily grasped form of representation"

"Lippmann refers to stereotypes as a projection of on to the world"

"The stereotype is taken to express a general agreement about a social group, as if that agreement arose before, and independently of, the stereotype"

"Stereotypes form a list of people, therefore people are associated"

"The role of stereotypes is to make visible the invisible"

"The stereotypes are seen as a way of categorising people and belittling them"

"Stereotypes in the media are a way of representing people or certain thing. It helps us understand the meaning of it more if we can associate them with something in our heads"

Research - Moral Panics - Steve Baker

Steve Bakers - Representations

"Every time we encounter a media text, we are not seeing the reality, but someones version of it"

We cannot be 100% sure if what we see in the media is true or false
"The result of this process of mediation is that we are given a version of reality which is altered: those are never the real people that we are seeing but representations of them which have somehow been created"

"The media place us at one remove from reality: they take something that is real, a person or an event and they change its form to produce whatever the text we end up with"

Media text only show us what they want us to see, so sometimes we don't see the actually story or thing.

"We categorise people into types (E.G workaholic, feminist etc) to simplify the task of person perception"

Mediation - the three things

1. Selection: "What ever end sup on out screen or in the paper, much more would have been left out - Any news story has been selected from hundreds of others which the producers decided for you were less interesting, any picture has been chosen from an enormous number of alternatives".

2. Organisation: "The various elements will be organised carefully in ways that real life is not: in visual media this involves mise-en-scene and the organisation of narrative".

3.Focusing:"Mediation always ends up with us, the audience being encouraged towards concentrating on one aspect of the text and ignoring others. If you are watching a film the camera will pan towards an important characters, in a tabloid the headlines will scream for your attention".

"Constructionist feel that representation can never just be the truth or the version of the truth that someone wants you to hear since that is ignoring your ability as an individual to make up your own mind and the influences of the society that you live in on the way that you do so".

"Mediation refers to what media do, and to what we do with media"

Furiosa and the 'male gaze': is Fury road a game changer?
This article is written by Nick Lacey

I chose this article for many reasons. The main reason is because I feel that woman taking leading roles is a huge step for the movie industry as audiences are only use to males taking leading roles and woman are only their for the 'male gaze'. Also woman taking the lead role is a very different and challenges many of the conventions.
This article is mainly about woman taking leading roles and not following typical conventions like the male gaze, especially in the film "Mad Max:Fury Road" with the character Furiosa.

This article starts of to talk about females getting leading male roles. In the essay it says "Amongst forthcoming high profile blockbusters are the reboots of Ghostbusters & Ocean 11 with woman replacing male roles".

The article goes on to talk about how Furiosa's looks are not emphasised - "Director (George Miller) camera refuses to objectify furiosa". It then starts to talk about how we see Furiosa can complete task that audiences members see has 'male jobs'. "Furiosa drives a truck and knows technical aspects of the rig - typical convention of men.

"Furiosa is not shot sexually, Immortan Joe's four 'wives' are though. They are all stick-thin, beautiful and in one scene you can see their nipples when they get sprayed with water. Being generous we could say that this is justified by the narrative. But while it could be argued despot Joe would likely choose attractive woman for his harem"-  This suggested that the film still applies the male gaze theory but it challenges many other conventions.

In this scene we can see that Furiosa is in complete charge over everyone - including the men. We typically think that max would be the better shooter because of typical conventions but we see Furiosa take over and have the better shot.

Nick Lacey covered a wide range of points in this article but I still think more points could be made.

Research and Analyse of Documentaries

Research and Analyse of Documentaries

Typical examples of Documentaries

  • Blackfish
  • Cowspiracy
  • Racing Extinction
  • Virunga
  • Chasing Ice
  • Earthlings
Format

The format of these documentaries are typically 1 - 2  hour long broadcast, however there are some documentaries that run in a series, for example 'Making a Murderer' these are less common that the 1 - 2 hour broadcast. Documentaries are scheduled to broadcast when its an anniversary of an event, for example on September 11th there are several documentaries that talk about the 911 attacks.  Or if a topic that relate to the documentary is popular in the news. A typical documentary features videos that have been filmed by the audience and also some professional video clips, it also has people that relate to whatever the documentary is about so for example if it was a documentary about 911 then it would have eye witnesses, members of emergency services talking about the event.

Appeals

Documentary appeal to audience for many reason due to the uses & gratification model. The audience will have more knowledge about a certain topic meaning they are able to socially interact with people when out. Also the audience will watch documentary to educate themselves about certain events and topics.

Target Audience

I think the main target audience would typically be adults between the age of 20 - 55. In the lifestyle category it will be aimed towards the innovators and the utopians because most documentaries have a message about changing the world and ways people can help.

Opening Sequence

The visuals in this documentary tell us that the characters in this documentary are not actors and are in fact real people that have a part in the events that happened, the audience know this because you see clips from handheld cameras that feature people that are then interviewed later on in the documentary.
Many of the camera shots are close up during the interviews because the audience are able to see the emotion on the peoples faces as they talk about what happened. Also the editing in this documentary is very slow pace and slow transactions between clips because it makes it seem even more dramatic.

Setting

Documentary's don't have a set setting. They can film the interviews anywhere, however most of the interviews in this documentary tend to be in an outdoor space or what seems to be a studio. But some documentary's film their interviews in various spaces such as that are linked to what the documentary is about.

Technical codes

One shot type that is used a lot through out documentary's is close up shots, close up shots are used during the interviews in the documentary. Close up shots are used

Representation of Miley Cyrus

The picture on the left is from the daily mail newspaper. This news article represents Miley Cyrus to be surrounded by drugs in a recording studio. Miley is representing herself as a young girl who has become very successful but has ended up involved with drugs.

The encoders of article are the journalist and editors of Daily Mail have represented Miley has a popular and successful woman involved with drugs and alcohol. The editors have labelled all the drug substances on the table so the readers know what the drugs are

The decoders of this article would think Miley is an irresponsible woman who has many admires who grew up with Miley watching her on Hannah Montana and then growing up to be a intense drug taker.  Some of Miley's audience would be very young and seeing this images of her could be shocking.

In Miley's 'Bangerz' album cover she is representing herself as innocent as she is biting her finger which suggest innocence but then her outfit and body language gives a complete opposite representation as her outfit is quite short and her body language comes across as sexy.

The encoders of this album cover which is mainly the photographer. They represent Miley  has a young woman but a sex icon. Miley is biting her finger and got her body angled so her bum is pointing towards the camera, she also is making eye contact with the camera. This makes her come across as a little flirty and sexy so the male audience would be attracted to this album cover.

The decoders of this album cover represent Miley has a sex icon for men and woman as in other photos on her social media she likes to photograph herself naked which is why the decodes see her as a sex icon.

Miley represented her self as a young successful girl who is admired by thousands of young people around the world. She is in a Disney magazine which shows she is a Disney star so her target audience would be young 10 year old girls who admire her and dream of being her.

The encoders of this Disney Magazine which are mostly the photographer and editor. They represent  Miley has a very young innocent girl. She is very successful because she is a Disney star

The decoders would admire Miley and dream to be her. The preferred reading would be that Miley is a young sweet girl who has become very successful.

In this Rolling Stones magazine cover Miley represents herself as an sex icon for men and woman as she appears to be showing her cleavage but she also represents herself as an independent woman who has an bright open mind and doesn't care what anyone else thinks.

The encoders of this magazine are the photographer and editors. They represent Miley to be a young sexy woman. She is topless in the picture who suggest that she is very confident with her body but this also suggests that she is a sex symbol because men would see her naked and be attracted. She has her tongue out and seems to be licking her skin which makes he come across and flirty and sexy, again making her a sex symbol for men and woman.

The decoders of this would think Miley is young woman who is trying to get the point across that woman should be happy with their body and they shouldn't be embarrassed about it. The woman audience might see her as a role model to them and the younger audience.

Lines of Appeal

Lines of Appeal

Question 1. Use of humour as a persuasive device

One advert that i think uses humour is the dancing pony advert. This advert shows a Shetland pony dancing through the field while other animals watch it. This advert uses humour by showing the pony dancing but using some of the most known dance moves such as the moonwalk. This also is a humour advert as people have never seen a dancing pony so every time someone watches it all they can do is laugh at how silly it is. I think the target audience for this advert is aimed towards the mainstreamer as the mobile company 'Three' is a well known brand and everyone knows about it.

2. Slogan

In this nike advert it shows a basket baller going for  a dunk. They use famous athletes to show that you can be just like them. Nike use the slogan 'JUST DO IT'. The slogan is only short but it is a strong message. The slogan suggest that whatever you want to do you should just go and do it and not think about it. The slogan is always in capital letters which suggest that they are sort of shouting at you and to grab your attention. The word 'DO' suggest that you need to put in work and effort to get there. The slogan is short which makes it easier for people to read and remember.

3.Find an advertising campaign that uses shock tactics

This advert will be shocking to the audience for many reason. The advert shows a girl who has been hit by a car. Audience would find this shocking because thousands of people get hit by a car so they know how common it is and how it could happen to them, so if they seen this advert then it would cause them to be a little safer when crossing roads. This advert also uses a young girl, this is also so the audience who have children can be aware of how dangerous crossing a busy road can be. This advert also uses the caption 'Stop.Think.Live' this caption is easily recognizable because it is shown everywhere so people will easily remember it when crossing a road. Another thing this advert does is it looks like the young girl is looking directly at you and makes you think how it could happen to you, your family or friends.

4.Stereotyping

I chose an Dr Pepper advert that the caption says, 'It's not for woman'. This advert uses gender stereotypes and is saying that woman cant drink certain drinks. This goes back to when men were seen bigger than woman and men and woman are not equal but times have changed and men and woman have equal rights which makes this advert awful.

5. Intertextuality

In the Vodaphone advert it features a famous character that nearly everyone knows, Yoda. Yoda is very good character to feature in an advert because he is know to give wise advise so having him on an advert it is like he is telling you to buy a phone from vodaphone because its the wise decision.

6. Elite persons

This is an Samsung advert that features the famous footballed Ronaldo. Using a celebrity like this in an advert will make the product become more popular, especially with football fans. Ronaldo is seen as the best of the best which is why he is seen as elite. Samsung have chosen Ronaldo to symbolise how their phones are elite and to show how their phones are the best ones out their, just like Ronaldo is the best footballer out there. Ronaldo is constantly in the media either playing football or doing something for charity, he is known by everyone which is why he is featured in these adverts.

7. Reward and Punishment

This advert uses Reward and Punishment by showing how the children feel abandoned by their father.

genre analysis

Genre Analysis

The film Saving Private Ryan is part of the war genre. You can obviously tell by the trailer that the genre is war. The start of the trailer shows a slide show of war related images and then a voice over of a letter being read out loud which indicated this voice over is featured in the actual film.

In this trailer they use a range of different camera types. They use a long shot so you can get the whole view of the character but still get the detail of the background in. They also use close ups through the whole film. They use close ups to show the importance of things and expressions on the characters faces, the characters in this film are soldiers so they see traumatic things so using a close up camera shot will show how they feel.
The trailer features an American flag which connotes that the film is going to be patriotic as it is the one of the thing we see. A few seconds later we find out its about Soldiers fighting in the war which suggest that is American soldiers at war. We know that this film is set on the beaches of Normandy. This is a common setting for war film as it is familiar to many people, also this tells us it was based around World War II because the beaches of Normandy were raided during the War. The uniform the soldiers have on is obviously military uniform, each of the costumes were different as each characters uniform had different rankings on, also some costumes has bullet holes and rips in to make the scene look realistic and the helmets were dented. This was so the scene looked realistic and authentic.
There were a lot of various props used throughout the trailer. The props give the film that extra detail and make it seem real. All the soldiers in the trailer had guns, the guns had to have an accurate representation of what the guns were like back in World War II. The soldiers each had different guns, E.G some soldiers had rifles and some had machine guns. Other props which were used were the Czech Hedgehogs, this were used to add some realism and effect to the battlefield.
The lighting throughout the trailer is dark and gloomy, this is done to capture the gritty tones of the film. This is also because of the destruction the smoke and ashes portrays the grey and black tones.

The way the characters act throughout the trailer varied, some of the characters had to make it look like they were in pain from the wounds their characters inflicted. Others acted in shock and horror because of the events around them, there was a lot of screaming and shouting from the soldiers to really capture the emotion of the soldiers.

Towards the end of the trailer, the music becomes incredibly dominant as the heightened 'clash' of the symbols erupts as soon as bomb goes off which is where the still image starts to become moving and shows very quick shots of the three main characters.
With this trailer, we can clearly observe that the most emphasised element is the music and voice over as it builds up to the explosion of the bomb. This could be due to the actual content of the trailer is perhaps too graphic for certain members of the audience. In addition, it may be due to the fact that during wars such as WW1 and WW2, many people listened to the radio for stories and key information so the trailer is giving the audience the idea of what it was like to not have a visual media platform.

Genre

The genre for this film is War.

Mise - en - scene

Costume - All the characters in this trailer wear solider uniforms - Soldiers fight in the war
Make up - Covered in dirt and blood - Been at war for a long time
Props - Machine guns Grenades -  Lots of fighting and action - Typical war film
Lighting - Quite dark, gloomy, miserable and sinister - suggest that being a soldiers is an awful experience.

Setting
War zone - Little towns that have been destroyed - No life around
Everything is demolished - Ghost town

Use of Camera

This trailer uses a lot of different camera shots - It uses a range of wide shots to show how destroyed and demolished the towns are
Uses close ups - show the motion of the soldiers face - show how scared they look

Character Types
The characters seem young, weak - Scared
They fighting for their lives
They don't leave nobody behind

Storyline

From the trailer it seems that the soldiers are fighting in a war but are trying to get somewhere and face many complications.

Media diary week 3

The incredibles

Income and status model

Due this films being aimed towards children I cant say that the target audience fits into any of the income and status categories but this category is unreliable and not all people fit into this category.

Audience profiling

I could see the typical age for people watching this film is around the age 4 - 10 as the film is animated and animated films are typically aimed towards children but from personal experience i would say the older generation of people from 11 -30 would also enjoy it. I don't think nationality or ethnic group will affect who watches this films.

Young & rubicams 4 C's

I think the target audience for this would be the 'Mainstream' as it is a very popular film and the story line is similar to most animated films and the mainstream audience like familiarity, also you don't have to pay attention to the film as the story line is pretty basic,

Lifestyle categories

I think the groupies would fit into this film as it is a very popular film and many people would have seen and because groupies want to be accepted by people around them so if they watch this film they will be able to talk to people around them about the film.

media diary week 6

Guilty pleasures

I would have to say my guilty pleasure is defiantly Disney or children films such as cars and UP. I think the target audience for these types of films are targeted at children but older generation of people still enjoy them. The films I usually enjoy watching are based around action and suspense as I i like to be kept on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Some of my favourite films are:

  • The incredible
  • Monsters inc
  • All of the toy story's
  • Cars

I think I enjoy this films because I am still a kid at heart and also I am still on the same wavelength as the target audience and I seem to be a teenager who doesn't want to grow up. These types of films are fun and enjoyable to watch and always put a smile on my face. The plot to these films are also very easy to follow so I don't have to pay much attention as I sometimes seem to loose interest. I definitely take the preferred reading to these films.

Second audience questions

Second audience questions

1) Two theories that are associated with the effects debate are the hypodermic syringe model and the inoculation/desensitisation model. The hypodermic syringe model is the theory that violent images in media texts could influence the behaviour of some people exposed to them. According to this theory the audience receive an injection of a media text. This could be both a positive and a negative thing. However, there are some problems with this theory such as, it ignores peoples free will and personalities and it also suggest the audience is passive. Some examples in which people think this theory as affected people is the the James Bulger case, they say that the murder was based on the film 'child's play 3'. The other theory is the inoculation theory suggest that if audiences are exposed to long repeated media messages then over time they will come immune to it. So if audiences are exposed to media violence they will eventually wont find it shocking. This means people may commit a violent act because it no longer seems shocking to them. Many things that might have been seen wrong years ago that the media shows us on a regular basis such as sex, drugs use, alcohol use and violence. An example of this is when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold massacred 12 school children and one teacher in an school in America. People say they committed this because they played violent video games and watched violent movies and listened to heavy music and over the years they become immune to it all.

2) The difference between active and passive. An active audience reception suggest the audience don't just absorb the media they are consuming but they are actually involved, sometimes unconsciously, in making sense that any message as it relates to them in their own personal context. Active audience may interpret the media a certain way from just their own cultural background differently from someone else with a completely different background. An passive audience reception suggest that the audience are controlled by the media as they are puppets. The audience receiving the information from the media is literally just - passive. It suggest that the audience don't question or even intellectually engage at all with what you see in the media, they just sort of drink it in. This also suggest that the audience are manipulated by the creators of the media texts, and that our behaviour and thinking might be easily changed by media-makers.

3) I think the argument about violent games and movies making someone violent is a ridiculous idea. Violent media will not make someone commit a crime, it may move them in an shocking or emotional level but that is it. Every person has the basic knowledge of wrong and right and a violent media text wont change that. The mental state of that person is the only thing that will make someone commit a violent act.

4)I think an active audience are more acceptable than passive for many reasons. An active audience are more independent. The active audience gets more involved with the films and understand what's going on unlike a passive audience who don't interact with the media. The active audience are more in control of what they consume  while an passive audience follower of the crowd and consume what everyone else is consume. The active audience are a lot more free willed in what media they consume, the passive audience are more dominated in what media they consume.

5)The media text that i have chosen is Friends. If I had to apply the uses and grafications model then this shows gives me escapism as it is a show i can sit down, and relax and forget about college work and have some down time. The popularity of the show allows me to social intereact with other about the programme because the humour used is the type of humour i use with friends so we can talk about the jokes used.

6)The advert i chose is the latest nike advert
This advert is football players having a game of football and when the team goes to have a goal kick the other team goalie turns into the hulk and saves it. This advert it about Nike football boots. The preferred reading of this advert would be that Nike football boots are the best ones to buy and Nike goalie gloves will make you aggressive and 10 times better in goal

Reception theory

Reception Theory

The text i am going to summarise is Friends. Friends is an American sitcom that is based on six friends who all live in the same apartment complex who face life and love. They like getting into each others business and often swap romantic partners. The target audience for this sitcom is targeted at the Mainstreamer because it is one of the biggest sitcoms ever made and is known internationally. It is aimed more towards teenagers and adults because it contains some jokes that not many children would understand.

Preferred: The target audience would most likely to agree and relate with this show as it shows six adults who dont have lots of money so many adults will relate to this and take the preferred reading. What the encoders want to achieve is that they want to show the target audience what life is like in New York and the complications that come with it. There are many ideologies encoded into this TV programmes. One ideology is that friends are essential for having a happy life. Another ideology is that men should be masculine as the men in friends are very masculine and love to go out and get with girls. This text celebrates friendship, love and life. The main message in this tv show is that friends come before anything. Friends are more important than money and anything else.

Oppositional: Some audiences may take an oppositional reading towards this text. Some audiences will agree what the text is doing and what the message they are trying to get across is but they might not agree with it. Some audiences might not agree with that friends is the most importnat thing in life. They might not agree that the script is well scripted and full of humour. Some audiences say that the Characters cant act and are not funny. Audiences that take an oppositional reading might think that the show is unrealistic and life in New York is completely different.

Cultural Experience: Somes cultural experience might change their view on the show.

media diary 4 - Blackfish

Media diary - Week 4

A media text that changed my view was the documentary Blackish. The documentary is about how Sea worlds theme parks capture orcas and hold them in captivity. I totally engaged with this documentary on an emotional level. The documentary made me absolutely shocked and disgusted how so many people can go along and capture these animals and take the children away from the mothers.

Before I watched this documentary I didn't even think about how the whales are captured. Even a few years ago went i went to America and visited Sea world i didn't even think about how the whales got their and how they were treated but know i have watched the documentary I have actually released that Sea world as a company are disgusting and they need to be shut down because the way that the animals are treated can damage the health of the whale and even the health of the trainers. According the documentary the trainers that train with the orcas only have two weeks on training before they are entered into the pool with the whales, this puts the trainers at a high risk. The documentary made me think about how wrong it is to keep animals in captivity and keep them isolated. This is probably one of the biggest documentary that changed peoples opinions on Sea world as recently sea world have been banned from breeding any orcas. I think eventually Sea world will be stopped from keeping any orcas in captivity.

media diary week 2

Name of text: Facebook

Where did you find it: On the app store

Genre: Social media

What is the purpose: The purpose of Facebook is to 'give people the power to share and make the world more open'. Facebook explains that it believes that increased connection between people through their site will lead to better understanding between disparate groups. Facebook is designed for users who want to stay in touch with friends and family.

Target Audience: Facebook's target audience is teenagers - adults as it allows people to stay in touch with other people from all around the world. A study was shown that 65% of Facebook users are over 35.

Your reaction to the text: I think Facebook is a good social media website as it lets you connect to people from all over the world and it share moments that you have experienced. However Facebook can contain some disgusting videos that people don't want to see. This is a shame because it puts people of the social media website.

Why would people consume the text: People use Facebook for many reasons. The main reason is simply because everyone is on Facebook. Other reasons is it contains instant messaging so people use it to stay in touch with their friends and family. Also people might use it because it is an easy way to share photos and upload status.

Could some people react in different ways to the text? How?
People could react differently because people might not like Facebook because it is full of videos that might not be the nicest things also Facebook is full of fake links that take you to virus so they feel like they are risk.

Review - Media diary week 1

Avengers

Avengers Assemble was a long awaited big screen film that featured a team of superheroes such as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr),Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

The team of superheroes are brought together by S.H.E.I.L.D. agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) when Loki and his team of aliens try to destroy the whole human race.
After waiting all these years and getting bits and pieces from other superhero films that eventually lead to the Avengers Assemble, I have to say this films goes above and beyond any other Marvel film I have  ever seen. After you watched this film you will see how the script has been scripted with some hilarious one liners from Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr), the characters are played by amazing actors who suit their role massively. The action is this film is most defiantly the best action I have ever seen in any Marvel film. Avengers Assemble as some amazing special effects that will leave you speechless, the explosions and fire in this film as real as it will get. The aliens that fight against the team of superheroes don't look computerized at all.

One thing to note about Avengers Assemble is it's male dominated cast. Out of the seven superheroes there is only one woman Avenger. Scarlett Johanson's character is extremely sexualised by the costume she wears. Its clear that her main role is to appeal to a male audience. Also on the Avengers poster below you can see that Black Widow (Scarlett Johanson) is in the background rather than the for ground which suggest she is less important than the male characters.

However the story to this film is quite basic but no one really cares about that as they are too busy looking at the amazing action and special effects. All around I think this is the best Marvel film that has been released. I highly recommend this film to anyone. Even if Marvel isn't your thing you will absolutely love this.
The Avengers made an impressive 207 million dollars on the open weekend and made a massive domestic gross of 622 mllion dolllars.
