AIDS- It's growth, the awareness and myths.

Until the 1980s, we do not know how many people developed HIV or AIDS. HIV was unknown and transmission was not accompanied by apparent signs or symptoms.
June 1982, a group of cases among gay men in Southern California suggested that the cause of the immune deficiency was sexual and the syndrome was initially called gay-related immune deficiency (or GRID)- was later believed to be related to come from Haiti. Since the 1980s, men who have sex with men (MSM) have remained the group most at risk of HIV in the UK. January 1983, AIDS was reported among the female partners of males who had the disease suggesting it could be passed on by heterosexual sex.
In October, bath houses and private sex clubs in San Francisco were closed due to high-risk sexual activity. New York and Los Angeles followed suit within a year.
In the 1980s, there was a very high death rate from AIDS. However, medications have improved dramatically and so has the life span of people with HIV infection. If you have access to AIDS medications and medical monitoring, there’s no reason you can’t live a long life even with HIV infection or AIDS.
Myth: You have to take your doses exactly 12 (or 8, or 24) hours apart.
Reality: Medications today are fairly forgiving. Although you will have the most consistent blood levels of your drugs if they are taken at even intervals through the day, they won’t stop working if you’re off by an hour or two. However, some drugs, like Crixivan (indinavir) can require careful timing.

Analysis of black magic by Little mix

Little Mix's video for their number 1 single, black magic, follows a linear narrative. With the story having an equilibrium, disruption, realisation of disruption and a new or similar equilibrium. The girls star in the video with them playing four 'nerdy' students, who get no attention from boys and get negative attention from girls. However in the end the girls are popular and have positive attention from boys. This is because they find a 'magic' book, that fixes all their problems.

The video highlights the little ix girl's as fun and adventures people. Although its not the first music video directed by director X, for the girl. Its one of the ones that looks fun and exciting. As they have took on the persona of different people. The other music videos for Little Mic that have ben directed by director X have taken a more serious route. For example their music video for Little Me is in black and white, and takes place in a old, run down and abandoned warehouse. In the beginning of that video there are little kids acting out a scene, which is similar to this video. Whereas in this video the girls are the ones acting out the scene up until half way through the video.

The outfits and location chosen for the video also add impact to the story the video is portraying. The outfits picked for each girls emphasis the 'nerdy' archetype that the girls are trying to achieve. With big, bold glasses, backpacks and scrunchies, "plain Jane" is how the director, Director X describes the girls for the first scene. He goes on to say  "they find this magic book that transforms their lives". The location for the music video is a university campus, with most of the students still in the university, who also appear in the video. As well as actual students little mix invited some of their fans who were able to appear in the video.

mental illness of screen

Representations of mental illness of screen. By Jerome Monahan
December 2003

The single point that the article is trying to make is that "media can shape and distort our understanding of mental illnesses". This is done by using many different exams to illustrate this point.

The first example used is Ned Flanders, the annoying neighbor from the Simpsons, Jerome describes a scene in which Ned has a mental break down, after a serious of events happen to Ned.He starts to insult everyone after him. After this he immediately drives him self to a mental health hospital. The sensible thing to do, get help after something bad has happened. Jerome later explains that the sequences that we see of Ned has 4 clichés, which mental health patients will recognize. Firstly, the "suddenness of Ned’s breakdown, then there is the immediate way his emotional problems are manifest in aggression against others." Thirdly,"the fortunate survival of a mental institution in Springfield" and lastly "the wonderfully absurd choice of treatment Ned is offered by the Nurse Ratchett-resembling receptionist". She offers him the choice of being escorted to his room or be "dragged off kicking and screaming."

One flew over the Cuckoo's nest, 1975, is the next example Jerome uses to show how the media affects our view of mental illness. In one scene the patients are playing monopoly, "most of the actors selected to play the key patient roles were chosen partly because of their unconventional looks". "Behind-the-scenes documentary was made during the film’s shooting called Completely Cuckoo. It reveals that many of the actual patients were terrified of the actors because of their odd, disheveled appearance and quirky battery of mannerisms".

  • The bill
  • Call the midwife
  • coronation street
  • Luther
  • Emmerdale
  • Holby City

Format

Each show runs in a series with episodes lasting about 45 mins and having from 13 to 20+ episodes each series.Adding a new episode once a week in some cases, others do thing like Christmas specials, e.g doctor who who adds one hour long episode at christmas. The start of a new episode will always recap the last few episodes before so the audience can catch up on anything they missed or to re-cap as the episodes are a week or longer apart. In every episode there is always a problem that the main characters will need to solve, the problem is always solved in one episode and a new one arrises in the newest episode.

Appeals
The appeals of the genre are mystery as every time a new episode is released is a follow on from the one before. The episode before the newest one is always left as a cliff hanger giving hints as to what could be the plot line in the next one. One of the main reason for why the audience may watch these types of programmes would be to gain entertainment/ escapism purposes. As a form of escape from everyday pressures and a source of entertainment.

Target Audience
There are many different audience types for this type of television genre. The drama programs will normally entice a certain audience type, which would be the explorer. As they are often the first to try something new out ideas or experiences. They respond to brands that offer new sensations, indulgence and instance effects. The seek out the difference in society, new shows, new ideas and new ways of entertainment, their core need in life is discovery. This also means that they would fit in to the self actualisation section in Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Meaning their sole purpose would be to find new discoveries and to find enlightenment.

opening sequence
The Doctor Who series 8 opening sequence that is shown at the top on the page doesn't exactly who a certain setting but we see an object falling or flying passed clocks and roman numbers. When the opening sequences starts the camera shows different size clocks around the out side of the framing. All the cogs interlock and all are ticking while the camera moves through the scene. 7 seconds into the opening sequence we see a bright orange light, once that light dies down we see a spiral of roman numbers spinning with he Tardis flying out of the centre. The opening sequence doesn't really tells us much about the show but it does gives us hint, the clocks that are present throughout the sequence tells us that the show revolves around time, past, present and future.

Setting
For shows like Causality, The Bill and Holby City all have similar settings. Which would be a small village or city. In which the main characters all live and work, their everyday lives revolve around all the problems and issues that happens in the town. Eastenders and Emmerdale  also take place in towns but they are a lot small, where everyone knows each others problems. Call the midwife is a British drama series which follows around a group of nurse midwives working in he set end of London in the late 1950's, early 1960's.

Technical codes
Different camera shots are always used in all of theses different shows. Close ups are used to show how the characters are feeling, we see all the raw emotion on their face. Medium/ long shots are used to establish the setting for background of the scene. They can also be used to shows who else is in the shot with a character. Fast pace editing used in the opening sequences of drama shots to show short clips of the problems that happened in the episode before the newest one. Slow pace editing it also sometimes used when a problem is about to unfold e.g. a car crash, when are person is confessing to a problem or when a character dies. Music is always used in more dramatic shots that keeps the audience eon the edge of their seats. Loud and fast music can be heard when we know some thing bad is about to happen and soft quiet music will be heard when a touching moment happened, between close friend, family or main characters.

Characters and representations
  • The bad boy
  • The quite girl
  • The trouble maker
  • The mean girl
  • Innocent child
  • The helper
  • The villain
  • The heart breaker
  • Loyal friend
These are they types of representation, characters and stereotypes that are normally found in drama programs.

Narrative
For each episode the problem that occurs is always solved in that one episode and a new one will occur in the next episode. Problems that happen in these types of programs will not normally happen in day to day live. Problems that do happen in these types of programs , will not normally happen in day to day life as they have been largely exaggerated, for the purpose of entertainment for the audience. In drama series family is always valued, telling us that in every day life we should also spend tim with family and enjoy the time that we do have with our family. Also relationships are seem to be important in drama programs, suggesting that in everyday life we, the audience, should also value relationships.

Representation of a celebrity: Cara Delevingne

In this magazine cover of Vogue Cara is represented in a way to which the audience she seems very well known and fashionable. For first off she is on the cover of one of the most known fashion magazines across the world. One of the headlines says model of the year suggesting that out of all the models seen in fashion shows and cat walks this magazine has chosen cara as the model of the year. Another headline says international collections, maybe its talking about the clothes that are going to be featured in the magazine or its talking about Cara her self because of all the international success she has had over the years.

For this magazine article the headline used is Modelling industry made her "hate her body'. Making the audience believe that somewhere in this article Cara told the interviewer that modelling made her hate her body, everyone will want to know why it made her hate her body. She is represented as someone who doesn't give up because after she admitted modelling made her hate her body she went on to 'fight, fight, fight. I was constantly on edge". This also shows people that he wasn't willing to back down and didn't want to give up.

On the movie poster advertising the movie she started in she looks like a mysterious character as only her eyes can been seen by the camera. Although she is playing a character in the movie, she is still represented as a strong and brave character as one of the headlines on the poster in "get lost", showing how one of the characters can cope without the other and how they managed to survive as the next headline is "get found".

This interview with Cara was for interview magazine in which the pictures used she is seen in a dark environment, looking directly at the camera. Showing again as a strong and confident person as she is able to shoot pictures like this and still be seen as a role model and a inspiration to many of her fans. the will see Cara as an inspiration and a role modle that they can rely on .

Semiotic analysis.

1. The masthead used for the cover of the magazine is the name of the magazine 'Vogue' which means popular and fashionable, with is in bold red letter it stands out from the rest of the cover as its the first thing you see when reading the cover , it also stands out from the background for the shoot is white and Cara the model used is wearing a light pink and brown jacket. So the red used doesn't match anything in the cover yet it doesn't contrast with the rest of the colours used for the cover. The font used makes the masthead stand out as its in bold capital letters, easy to read. Also with the bold lettering it makes it easily recognisable to  different people. The word 'Vogue' means fashionable and popular which is a perfect title for the magazine as its al about the latests fashion trends and what fashion designers deem the most popular at the time.

2. Cara Delevingne is the model used for this issue of vogue, given her model status walking for Channel, Victoria Secret and Burberry taking this into account she is the perfect person to be on the cover of a fashion magazine. Over the years Cara has become more popular with both british and american audiences. Walking for the Victoria Secret fashion show in 2014 really started her modelling career as she then went on to walk for shows like Marc Jacobs, Mulberry, Burberry and Channel. Just recently she came out with her own handbag line with Mulberry, with a wide range of sizes and colours. Cara, at the time of the magazine shoot, was a up and coming model so the cover of the magazine is perfect for her as after shooting for Vogue she will move on to better things. Her body type on the cover shows a very posed and professional took, suggesting tot he audience that she has been modelling for a long time ore or that it only took her one shoot to get this picture. When in reality it might have taken her 30 shoots.

3. Everything on the cover of the magazine works well with the layout used. As the masthead is a bold red colour and so are some of the strap lines, the strap lines suggests and give ints to the audience as what they can expect from the articles in side the magazine. At the bottom of the cover there is the line 'the big fashion issue' which has ore likely been put there to suggests that Vogue are the big fashion issue as they are a fashion and a very popular magazine company. From the cover of the magazine it suggest s that all the stories that are going to appear inside the magazine will be linked to fashion and fashion tips. The clothing on Cara is very plain an dimple and doesn't take the audiences attention away from the strap lines to much as the colours of her clothing and the red colours of the headings match well and don't contrast each other. Also from the way all the strap lines are positioned  makes the audience attention fall straight on Cara as the strap lines are around the outside of the cover making it seem like Cara is making eye contact with the reader.

4. With many if not all the strap lines having something to do with fashion, models or makeup it implies to the audience that the articles that are inside will be based on these things with little trips and trick on how to wear different articles of clothing. With one strap line saying 'real clothes for real life' makes the audience believe that the magazine will tell them how to wear everyday clothes yet still make it look fashionable because no one has the time in the morning to spent putting the perfect outfit together, so why not just get a magazine tell you how to do it. The strap lines seen on the cover of the magazine prepare us for what is expected in side as its all about fashion so most likely will be aimed more at women than men as women will take long to plan an outfit and will give it a bit more thought, making the magazine perfect for a woman audience as its all about fashion forward statements and  'perfect fit the couture bra'.

5. A Vogue magazine can we used by women as a course of entertainment/ escapism or information, this is because women can gain information about different models or different clothing pieces. Women may use this magazine as a source of entertainment as they may find it exciting to change up an outfit or to see the different way they can war one piece of clothing. They may also like the fact that different models can be used on the front cover and different models are mentioned in side which will interest them more as they will want to know what the latest trend is or what models are wearing what. The information provided by that magazine is specific information as the thing written in this magazine will not be the same as any other as Vogue is more of a high end fashion magazine so it will be catwalk models and high end clothing, giving people low costing fashion that looks similar to the run way clothing.

Spectre trailer

The new James bond film spectre is from the genre action thriller, i see the trailer this way from the music, costumes, setting, camera angles and the plot .The genre of the film would be a thriller type of film filled with car chases and gun fights, aimed at young teenaged boys or mid aged men mainly. Everything mention add different effects to the movies franchise, with the camera angles making James Bond, the main character stand out through out the movie, also with the costumes it seems that he is smart and well dressed but also that he is a professional spy.

Music-for all the new James bond trailers they have used different artists to wright their own song for the movie. With Adele writing the theme tune ‘skyfall’ for the 2012 movie Skyfall. For this year’s new movie they had Sam Smith write ‘Writings on the wall’ for Spectre. Giving the movie its own theme tune that is different every time. Adding to the excitement of the film as it only appears every 3 years, watch different music every time. While the opening of the film doesn't have any music playing, after we get the intro of the film the classic James Bong sound track can be heard in the back ground of the whole trailer.

Costume-the trailer shows Daniel Craig wearing many suits, this portrays him as a professional, he also looks smart and classy while he goes around different cities having car chases and gun fights. while in the film Daniel Craig is always see in a suit whether its fights or have a sit down meal showing that he is a professional in what he does as he is able to keep the suit looking clean throughout the movie. Every character we see in the film is dressed smartly suggesting that they are also professionals. In once scene James and a woman are sat in a carriage on a train i believe and they are both dressed up him and suit as always and her in an elegant ball gown. Maybe talking about business or not but while doing so they still look professional.

Setting- I would say that the setting is in quite a rural place, e.g. a dessert. Other than that I would say that its set in an up sate busy city. As it is mainly set in the city more people can relate to the city for example London is the capital of the UK and many people will have visited London or may even live there. For other parts of the filmiest set in Mexico city, with a big festival taking place in the background of the first few shots we see of James. After we go from Mexico to London we are then introduced to a different setting where the first car/plane chase takes place, in a snowy mountain range. Then we see a car chase take place in a well built up, busy city.

Camera angles-From watching the trailer I can see that the camera angles used shows Daniel Craig’s character, James Bond to be the powerful and the main characters using extra-long shots to see the background behind him to using extreme close up shots where the audience just gets the image of his eyes this shows his raw emotion and we get to see his full reaction to what events are happening around him. The direction also use camera angles which shows James Bond as being more powerful as we, as an audience get a low down camera view of him. This shows that he is stronger and the leader of the movie.

Plot-Every James Bond has the same plot, something goes wrong and James is there to save the day. Although they all take place in different cities for example, Skyfall took place in London and Spectre takes place in Mexico and London. From the trailer I get the impression that the same plot will be used in the new film. Something bad happens in Mexico and James Bond being the best spy there is, is sent in to try and save the day. Although with the new film it seems a bit different with James going to Mexico without the audience knowing why, I would like to believe that throughout the film we will uncover the reason as to why James was there in the first place. However it seems like they, James Bond and his team, are the one’s tracking down a person instead of someone tracking them down for once.

Overall the trailer for Spectre looks very incising with all the special effects that happen, with different camera angles making some character looks stronger and more powerful than other and with the plot of the film sticking to what the audience can relate to. Keeping the plot the same will bring in people that have watched all the James Bond films as it has changed over the years but also giving it a little twist with adding extra bits in, in some scene for example the car chase that take place near the end of the trailer or when planes and helicopters are involved. Spectre is an action / adventure / thrilled kind of movie with many gun fights in many different locations that many contain many different outcomes.

media diary week 6

While being off this week many people, including me, have spent a numerous amount of time sat on their laptop or watching the telly. The television series I watched over the week off is American Horror Story:Freak Show, staring Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Sarah Paulson and Jessica Lange. The target audience of this piece of text would be the explorer audience, as the programme is unusual and constantly changing format. With the whole series changing constantly and none of the seasons linking up. The stories are chaining every season with different people playing different characters and new characters being introduced every series. I don't think i would normally consume this piece of media as its based around horror stories, with the first season taking place in a murder house, second season is based in an insane asylum, third season is about witches in a coven and the fourth season(which i watched over this week) takes place at a freak show. i would say I fall in the mainstream audience category type as I tend to stick to new movies that have the same cast and storyline as most film out already, nothing is ever new. I believe that I would take the preferred reading to this media text as i enjoy the show as its stories about different people and what the have been through in life to end up where they are when he story takes place. Also in the last episode we see what happens what the show gets closed we see what happens to them in the future, for some their dreams come true and some just don't get the time the live the dreams they wanted. However for others they get to lie a life they would of never of though of while they were part of the Freak show.

Media diary week 5

The first text I consumed this week was the film the nightmare before Christmas, produced by Tim Burton. I chose to watch this film as a source of entertainment as I believe that it is a twist from the original Christmas or Halloween movies, crossing both holidays together. With a twisted storyline, the film starts out as a normal Halloween film filled with ghouls and ghosts but as the film progresses turns into a Christmas themed film.

This week I also watched the film 17 again, staring Zac Efron. I used this film as a source of entertainment as the film is about how a man’s life can change in the blink of an eye. Mathew Perry stars as the older man in the film showing what his life is like after high school with 2 kids and a wife. I believe people use this film as a source of entrainment as it’s not just another romantic film where the guy gets the girl. It gives a normal romantic film a twist. The film showed younger people what it is like to be a high school student and also showed parents what their children gets up without telling them.

Media diary week 4

The text that changed my life

While preparing for my GCSE in year 10 we watched a documentary called Super-size me. Morgan Spurlock took part in this documentary which showed what eating fast for every meal of the day for a whole month can do to someone’s body. As it wasn’t important to my English course we didn’t watch the whole documentary, but the short clips I did see in class were enough to change my view on fast food. The particular fast food chain that was used was Mc Donald’s showing the affects of the fast food chain with Morgan Spurlock throwing up after just participating in the filming for just one week, he had ate Mc Donald’s for a whole week and by the time he had his next meal (another Mc Donald’s) he had threw up in the parking lot for the restaurant. After watching this documentary I gave up Mc Donald’s for a whole year, I couldn’t understand how anyone who had watched the film could still eat any fast food after that. Also on the documentary they showed a woman who had saved her Mc Donald’s meal for over 10 years, and the thing that got me about this part of the film was the fact that the meal looked exactly the same as it did when she first got the meal. Knowing this anyone could be eating food that is old that it looks, none of the food she kept had mould on meaning anyone who eats Mc Donald’s could be eating old food or even mouldy food without knowing. B The film shocked me that much that I decided not to eat Mc Donald’s for a whole year, watching other people eat it made me feel sick every time as they didn’t know what they were putting into their bodies.

Once upon a Time

Once upon a time is a TV series that was aired on Sky 1 but now appears on Netflix. Its about people lives changing from what they thought was normal to being characters in fairytales and children's stories. The target audience would mainly be girls between the ages of 13-18 but mostly 13 year olds. Who are probably still in school, year 8 going into year 9, who have a normal education.

I believe the preferred reading of the TV series is to understand that the family are a big part, if not the biggest part, in anyones life. People should trust their family and also protect them. To also take the preferred reading approach people should also be aware of the fact that everything that happens to these once normal people all happens in fairytales and stories you tell your children, none of it is real. But you are given that sense of realness when the producers include towns and cities everyone has heard of, stories they know people will have been told when they were little kids and giving them stories a twist to make fairytales seem not so perfect after all. I believe the ideologies of Once upon a time would be that you can be a hero and be brave on your own as well as needing you family and friends to help. The main character is Emma Swan, Jennifer Morrison, who is strong, young woman who is trying to her her son and save her family from danger. Giving the audience, who are mainly young girls, the feeling that they can be just like that, strong and brave. Teaching children they can do what they want as long as the believe in themselves. People can be strong with and without the support of family and peers around them.

Someone would take a oppositional reading if they were elderly or even just over the age of 30. People would say that the show is giving children a false expectation of what life is like , with all the supernatural experiences that go on throughout the series. People suggest that the media constantly tell us lies, TV should stay as much to the truth as possible. Oppositional readers would say that because the show mainly focuses on the family that the ideologies for the show don't show that family is important. Strong, powerful and brave are the ideologies of the show, the say states that you can be these ideologies without the family. Some people would also say that the main focus in life isn't just the family but education and peers as well which the shown doesn't show as much as it does about the family.

Culture experiences like peoples location, religion, education and socio-economic could be reasons why they don't like the show. For example if they don't agree with the preferred reading they will take the oppositional reading which suggests that family is't the most important thing in life but education is meaning they are of a older generation. Which still believes education is the most important thing in life, while yes it is important is it really the most important? The elder generation would be people that walk down the street still reading a newspaper or the people who fill out the cross words in the newspaper because they value the education they were given. Not many people had the money to go to school, so the people who did would value the time they spent there and will not want to lose the talents and all the grammer and proper english they have learnt. This is how someones cultural experiences could affect the reasons why they will not enjoy the TV series One upon a time, as the show is set in a modern day environment and modern day twists on old time fairy tales and children stories.

Media Diary week 3

Based on the piece of text I consumed this week I would say the audience would possibly be in the E group category for the income and status model. Which suggests they are a student or unemployed, people at the lowest level of income. This is made evident with the strong empower main character appealing to younger children, who are most likely still in school. I also believe that this piece of text would appeal to younger boys who are around the ages of 5-8, who would like to see themselves as quite strong but really they are just small little children. Most likely part of the middle class, with no view currently on religion or politics. I believe that this piece of text is mainly aimed at younger children as there are bright colours and characters that they recognise from other films, like the Avengers. The piece of media I consumed this week as appeals to ‘the mainstream’ category of Young and Rubicam’’s 4Cs. The mainstream is a category that enjoy the conventional and look for familiarity in the texts they consume, their main need in life is security. In the case of the ‘life style categories’ I believe that Thor mainly attracts ‘traditionalist’ as they want everything to remain the same, and Thor is like every other super hero film, with the main character looking the best by saving people and the day. Also I believe that Thor attracts groupies as all they want is for people to accept them and by watching the newest film they may think they are accepted into a group.

Media Diary week 2

This week I sat down with my little brother to watch Monsters University on Saturday at around 6 pm. We sat and watched this film through Netflix, the online movie streaming website. I would describe Monster University as a family film that everyone can watch and enjoy. There are parts in the film that everyone would love. The purpose of the film is to entertain children and teenagers and I believe it makes them excited about going to school, because as we saw in the first Monsters INC movie Sully and Mike had been friends since they started school, which makes children wish they had friends like that, friends that will be there till the end of school or even in Mike and Sullys case until they are grown adults.Disney Pixar were the producers of the film, with a target audience of young children and teenagers. When I first watched the film I really enjoyed it with all the colour they have put into the film and also how they followed the first film with a look back into the past of Mike and Sully. I think people would consume the text to either see what university maybe like, with making new friends or starting new classes, or to remember their college days, staying friends with their friends all the way through the years to maybe starting your first job with your best friend. Some people may react differently to the text for example some people could love the film, opening their eyes to a new world they have never seen before, maybe they decided not to go to university or maybe they have yet to make that decision. Or maybe some people would hate the film as they have gone back in time from the first film where Mike and Sully have jobs to them being young teenagers back at school.

Media Diary Week 1

Paper Towns review.

If you enjoyed John Green’s film, The Fault In Our Stars, the you will very disappointed with his new film ,based on a book of his, Paper Towns. Staring Cara Delevingne as Margo Spiegelman and Nat Wolff as Quentin Jacobsen, set in a quite town in Florida. Who since young kids,in the film, have been the best of friends but slowly drifted apart over many years. But after one unforgettable night both would remain friends for the foreseeable future. The night starts off with Margo intruding into Quentin’s room which sparks an emotional journey full of laughter, fun and excitement that the both embark on. Getting revenge on some of Margo’s closest friends, starting with her ex boyfriend and moving on to one of her best friend. After this night Margo failed to show up to school the next day, which worried Quentin and he set out to look for her, following clues Margo left behind before she disappeared, leading all the way up to New York City. Where eventually Quentin did find Margo. However from that point onward I felt like the film was a disappointment.

At a running time of approximately 105 minutes, I do not believe Paper Towns is worth the watch as it’s the same as plot as ever other teen, romance film out there, the girl gets in some sort of trouble or danger and the boy is always there to save the day. Quentin gathers some of his friends to try and track down Margo Spiegelman. Its just another dry love story about a boy who likes a girl in his school, who happens to live across the road from him, dwelling on the idea that if he helps or saves the day the girl, Margo, will magical fall madly in love with him. But all dreams of this happening fall apart when Margo tells him that she isn't coming home to their quite little town in Florida, she would rather stay in a Paper Town, alone as she describes it. A little bit of a twist to the story. Besides knowing the fact that in the end the real journey wasn't about trying to get Margo to come back home the friends try to live their last summer together before they all move on to college, experiencing things for the first time like skipping a class or traveling across the USA (tracking down a young girl that may or may not be there when they arrive and who may or may not want to come back with them).

The movie kind of felt like a let down, it had been advertised everywhere for about 3 months before the movie premiere, everyone was very excited about the film including myself, but the main let down for me, beside the whole the boy goes after the girl to try and save the day, was the ending of the film. I expected an interesting and exciting ending but I was very disappointed when I watched how the produce and director decided to end the film. Even if one of the charters had died it would have been a better ending to the film, giving the viewers an unexpected ending and a twist to the tale but it was like a fair tale ending, although the boy didn't get the girl, everyone did live happily ever after. Am not saying that they should have killed a character but anything would have been better to end the film than it did.

I could only imagine the way people who had read the book would have felt, the fans of John Green, who also read The Fault In Our Stars. They must have waited so long to finally watch the film with both Cara and Nat connecting with fans through out the use of social media, to fill them in on things happening with the film. With all the press the film as getting I was expecting a big shock at the end of the film or even through out the film to really get me excited about it but nothing really caught my attention. A real let down to me and all the other people who were excited for the film.

To conclude I would not recommend this film to anyone. With the way the film starts, trying to find a girl just to tell her you love her, to the way the film ends, in sheer disappointment. With nothing exciting happening in the film, it’s just like any other film out there. Predictable.
