Before we look at exactly how to write the essay - it's important to take a 'Lego' approach to it. There are two things about Lego that make life much, much easier...

  2. There's always a picture of the final product on the box
The exam board's mark scheme can be thought of as the Lego instructions. This will tell you all you need to know about the content and quality of the essay. I will use it to mark your essay and you will use it to mark your essay...

If the mark scheme is the Lego instructions - then the picture on the box can be thought of as other essays that have met the criteria and scored highly.
The following three essays all scored 40+ in the Research Investigation.
When you are reading make sure you make notes on the following things.
  1. Where the essay meets the criteria
  2. Count the amount of different resources used
  3. The academic resources are cited
  4. Look at the depth of the Textual Analysis
  5. How the question is answered
  6. Words you would use to describe the structure and flow of the essay
  7. Give at least one comment as to how the essay could be improved within the framework of the marking criteria
