Explore Representations in Thelma and Louise

Thelma and Louise (1991)

The opening section of 'Thelma and Louise' sees both women in a similar surrounding but are in complete character contrasts. Both cut scenes and characters are set in a kitchen setting and both women are working there under the control of a male. 'Women are shown as very feminine, as 'sex objects', as housewives, mothers and homemakers; and men in situations of authority...'(1) The main protagonist 'Thelma' can be seen as a more stereotypical housewife as her body language and reluctant attitude towards her husband when he enters.
