No Doubt New Song Review

Media Review
The piece of media I have decided to write about is No doubts most recent single, ‘Settle Down’.i enjoy both new and old songs, and was interested to see how the band would now come across to people as they have had a long break, around 10 years, away from the music scene. It’s definitely more modern and their direction has changed as it has more of a reggae vibe to it with the use of instruments such as steel drums that had only been hinted at in other early songs such as Spiderwebs. No doubt are primarily a pop rock/alternative rock band but now with a reggae fusion, which is why I believe it makes them different. Their music always seems vibrant and fresh sounding with Gwen Stefani ,the lead singer, having an unusual sound it makes the band even more so unique.

I wouldn’t say no doubt are known by the ‘masses’ as they were around in the late 80’s mainly 90’s. I think their target audience may differ from people who are in their late 20’s and on wards as they would have been teens listening to no doubt when they were seen as the ‘cool’ band at the time. However I think if you’re into learning about new music, you could be a younger listener like myself who has discovered the band through listening to other artists.

The music video its self has vibrant colours and a lively atmosphere also hinting at reggae type culture, whilst still keeping the rock roots by showing the band performing and gwens pop punk clothing. Early videos by the band have been clearly incorporated and the concept behind the video is a ‘reuniting’ of the band after a long period of time. With a catchy repetitive chorus, it’s a song that could be picked up and enjoyed by fans, the song is a good length to, the only criticism I have is that once Gwens lyrics end there is a long beat that goes on and I think it may be a bit to lengthy. I think it should have been cut a little shorter as there is anticipation that the song may continue but it doesn’t.
