Genres Of TV
Reality and Reality talent shows
This type of genre is aimed at 'normal' people and include unknown individuals from the public.Depending on the type of show the normal aim is to create a new celeb by simply documenting their life, or by the individual participating to win a prize.Popular programs can include the x factor a popular singing contest that has run for many seasons now, it has its own variations in other countries such as the x factor america, and el factor x, the spanish version.other similar contests are the voice/the voice UK, American idol and britain's got talent which is a contest open to the masses to portray any talent they have for a celeb panel.other types of shows are things such as the real housewives franchise, keeping up with kardashians or jersey shore. These programs follow the lives of individuals going about their day to day business. the audience use these types of shows not only for entertainment value but to feel involved and to see how they can relate to these people.
In a show such as the x factor it is filmed on location at first and goes round to different towns. This is so we can get a real life insight that normal people we see every day, possibly in are area, could have the potential to become a star.as the show continues we progress to the celebrity judges homes which are glamorised and in exotic locations to show what these people could aspire to have after winning this contest.from this the show is set in a studio with a live audience which further gets us involved in the show. The obvious layout is a big fancy stage with lots of lighting to create a feel of 'all eyes on me' and a dramatic effect. On the other hand shows like the real housewives are set in normal suburban situations like the character homes, shops and bars the only difference is that the people in these shows are wealthy then the average person and so throw lavish parties or are parts of exclusive clubs with exclusive people.
voice over is used a great deal in these shows as are character interviews and personal accounts.shows in this genre like to capture the audience.things like arguments grip the audience and make them want to watch more.also following a persons personal story make the viewer want to fins out more and will want them to do well in a contest. typical underdog stories are also popular with an audience as they would like to see these people come out on top.
