The Mainstreamer
(1a) This audience type are the people who sort of like to do what everybody else does. They like to have secutiry within society. They respond to big names and brands. They like to consume the most poular media texts and would most likely keep the same routine. Their core need in life is for security. A media text I believe the mainstreamer would enjoy is Britain's Got Talent. The Suceeder
Succeeders have a great amount of self-confidence and tend to aspire for the very best. As they aspire to be the very best, they occupy positons of responsibility of society. When it comes to brands, they only seek the best, looking for prestige and reward. They believe that it is what they deserve. Their core need in life is for control. A text I believe the succeeder would enjoy is Dragons Den.The Aspirer
The aspirer is very consious of how others perceive them. This is what drives them, not their own views of themselves. As a result, they looks are very important to them and they respond to what others perceive as a superficial image. Their core need in life is for status. A text I believe the aspirer would enjoy is America's Next Top Model. The Explorer
The explorer is always looking for new challenges. They never settle for the same thing, they are always looking for something new. They like to try out new ideas and experiences. They thrive on being different to everybody else. Their core need in life is for discovery. A text I believe would appeal to the explorer is The Big Bang Theory.(1b) I think these type of categories are very useful in defining audience types. It helps advertisers and company easily identify their audience and understand their needs in a text. I don't think they can be trusted entirely though. Some people will fall understand more than one audience type and may not have all the attributes of on particular audience type. In ways, everybody has elements of all categories.
(1c) Celebrity Juice
Josh is seventeen who lives at home with his parents, his nineteen year old brother and his fourteen year old sister in Liverpool. He has just started sixth form and is finding the transition from school to be tough, as he has an extreme dislike for it. He tends to spend little time on work and most of his time socialising with his mixed group of friends, that is what is most important to him at this point. When not with his friends, he enjoys listening to rap music or watching a variety of different sports or comedy shows with his brother, who has similar interests to himself. Josh can be very impatient and is very strong willed.
(d) Britain's Got Talent - Groupies
Groupies wish to be accepted by those around them. Britain's Got Talent is a very popular show and could give someone a variety of different things to talk about to the people around them.
Dragons Den - Cowboys
Cowboys are people who want to make money. Dragons Den is a show where people bring their business ideas to potential investors, then they choose whether or not they wish to invest. People watching may want to do the same, make money through a program like this.
America's Next Top Model - Egoists
This show is about beauty, the shows audience is most likely aspiring to be like the potential models on the show. They wish they could look like them, and egoists wish to get the best out of themselves.
The Big Bang Theory - Innovators
This show may attract innovators because they think the world should be how they view it. Characters in this program are very different to most people and go about things and view things very differently to most people.
