Media Diary Week 5
Bates Motel
Bates Motel is a modern day prequel series to the Robert Bloch novel and Alfred Hitchcock horror film 'Psycho'. The series depicts the life of Norman and Norma Bates prior to the events that happen in the Hitchcock film in a modern setting and a different location. I can personally identify with one of the characters in the series Norman Bates as he is a similar age to me and some of the problems and issues he faces are relatable to most teenagers such as Sex, Fitting in and Peer pressure.
The series does give an element of information as it rewards fans of the film Psycho and it informs them of what lead Norman to do what he does in the films. Bates Motel is very entertaining and there is never a dull moment and the episode always leaves you on a cliffhanger which makes you look forward to the next episode.
The acting in Bates Motel is superb and they have chosen very experienced actors, Vera Farmiga who plays Norma has starred in The Orphan(2009) and the Conjuring(2013) both fairly successful horror films. Freddie Highmore who plays Serial killer to be Norman Bates is very convincing and does well to capture the mind of the character the great Alfred Hitchcock prized himself on.
The show does give me Social interaction as i discuss it with My other friends and family who watch it, Also the use of official Bates Motel twitter pages and facebook pages which are advertised each episode give me the chance to see other peoples opinions on the series and keep up to date anytime.
