Miley Cyrus
This media text is of Miley Cyrus staring in her first tv series on Dinsey Channel, Hannah Montana which started in 2006. Miley was the star of this show as we can see by the positioning of which the encoders, the editors, have positioned her in this picture, she is slightly larger and closer up to present to the audience who the show is about. Here Miley Cyrus looks quite young and innocent looking, as she is dressed in respectable clothing and smiling. She looks quite childish, however this is in contrast to her pose of her hand on her head which suggests her trying to act older, to relate to teenagers. The fact that it is being advertised and shown on Disney Channel suggests that is a child/teens television show and represents Miley as a role model figure to young girls. Also by having all the cast of friends and family represent the show and Miley herself as being a friendly family TV show.
This second media text is from a 'life & style' magazine from the 15th of January 2014. Here is represents Miley as being, rejected, dumped and lonely representing her life as not all fun and games. It quotes 'what's wrong with me?' this signifies the thoughts going on inside Mileys mind. Here the journalists encoding this media text have represented Miley as a self conscious and weak individual, this also represents her as having feelings just like every other normal human being. The picture shows an emotionless face suggesting that maybe she is hiding pain behind it and that she is hiding something as the 'real reason' is about to be under covered in this magazine. It represents Miley as being vulnerable as it connotes her as being 'terrified.'
3rd February 2014, W magazine. Here Miley has ditched her sweet school girl look for a more raunchy look. Miley is posed on a bed completely naked with only a pillow covering her, representing her as provocative and making her more like a sex icon. Her black pointed fingernails and big rings and bracelets add an edgy and dangerous look to Miley. Her hair and face create a vintage look, which represent her as being glamorous. The fact that Miley is posed naked on this media text connotes that she is here stripped naked to let people see the real her, this represents her as brave also with the sub heading 'no apologies' represents her as fighting back and not regretting anything that has happened.
Billboard Cover, 26th March 2009. Here we see Miley Cyrus dressed in a checked shirt, jeans and a guitar this represents her as being a musician but also somewhat of a country/western singer and the encoder has included all the clichés. Also supporting this idea is the background which looks like a field of wheat and the sun shining in. Miley's facial expression represents her as being happy and she looks youthful and innocent with her long dark hair. The magazine represents Mileys life as all good and 'magic' as they have a subheading labelling 'Miley's magical kingdom.' This represents her as being at the top of her game almost like a queen and the audience as being her kingdom of people who follow her.
