The article is a case study on the independent film, Juno.
It contains certain aspects of the development; including finance, production and distribution. It also touches on some of the Jason Reitman's inspiration when making the film.
The article highlights the 'indie' nature of the film, saying "The production budget for Juno was $7.5 million,
slightly higher than the budget for Reitman’s previous film and much higher
than for many other independent films". This demonstrates that Reitman wanted the film to contain 'indie' iconography whilst still having a good budget.
The article then goes on to list a few independent movies that didn't have such a large production budget, like Clerks.
Comparing both trailers there's a stark difference between the production. Firstly, Clerks was filmed on black and white film to save money overall. Also the trailer looks lesser quality than Juno's, this is because Juno's trailer was made professionally.
Turner then continues to talk about the production of the movie and says "Juno was co-financed by Fox Searchlight Pictures, Mandate Pictures and Mr Mudd, all contributing to the total production budget. Fox Searchlight Pictures is a division of Fox Filmed Entertainment". This is very different to the production of Clerks, as Kevin Smith had to pay for the production himself using a number of credit cards.
