The Media Students book, Questions of Representation

"What is assumed to be the reality of the group which is demanding adequate representation? Most groups large enough to make such demands are not homogeneous."

"If we always simply call for 'realism', we may ignore the fact that media texts do not have a straightforward relationship to the rest of the real."

"From whose point of view is it being told? Whose is excluded? Who is the 'them' outside this cosy community?"

"How is the group on the receiving end of the joke treated in the rest of the media? Does that change on how we might experience the joke?"
