Moral Panics - Research log 4

Source: The School Shooting/Violent Video Game Link: Casual Relationship or Moral Panic?' by Christopher J. Ferguson, 2008

'it is concluded that no significant relationship between violent video game exposure and school shooting incidents has been demonstrated.'
REMEMBER: Don't go on too long about how the moral panic is fake, just use this quote to emphasise how wrong newspapers are and how they have a lack of evidence in these strong claims.

'As for the news media, it has long been recognised that negative news ... including that which promotes extreme views of a potential problem, 'sell' better than do possitive news'
Expand on this point, maybe this moral panic was created because its already established in society and can be abused to act as a 'scapegoat' for media to shift blame. Could all just be used to sell more? Also, there is a headline on the Sun, like everything they roll out is true...

'As such, news media and politicians may both pay greater attention to 'negative' news about videogames than 'possitive' news as it better suits their agendas.'
This can be used to reinforce the above quote, alternatively can be used as part as the 'moral entrepreneur' arguement. Maybe attacking other forms of media that they may see as a threat?

'The unfortunate result of this moral panic wheel is that mistaken beliefs are promulgated in the general public and the hysteria sown for the gain of news media.' Same as the above quote. This could reinforce multiple arguements and points.
