Free choice – peroxide Nina Nesbitt 27/10/14 17:42

Peroxide is the first studio album released in February 2014, which was produced and written by 20 year old Scottish singer/songwriter Nina Nesbitt, this album  following her previous singles and EP’s released over the past few years. This is a big step for Nina as she had previously only released EP’s and singles, which did quite well in the charts which is very good considering the fact that she wasn't well known. Her single stay out reached number 21 in the UK singles charts in April 2013.  Nina became famous as when she was only 16, she was invited to be Ed Sheeran’s support act on tour, and from there she was able to headline her own tours.

Her genre of music is described as acoustic, pop, rock, and she is signed at the label Universal Music Group. Nina writes her music to entertain her audience who have an interest in this style of music; however I would say that the main audience for this album is teenagers and young adults, as she writes about things that are relatable and relevant to people who are of a similar age to her, however I believe that most people would enjoy her music, as there is a mixed variety. She is also known for her cover of Fleetwood Mac’s song ‘Don’t stop’ which was used in the John Lewis advertising campaign.

There has only been one single so far from this album; the lead single ‘selfies’ from her album Peroxide reached number 40 in the UK singles chart, making it her second UK top  40 single.  There are two editions two the album, the single edition contains 13 tracks, and the deluxe edition contains 20.

Personally, I enjoy this album, as there is a song for pretty much every mood or situation I’m in. I have been a fan of Nina for quite some time now, and I have followed her music career, so I always look forward to seeing something new from her. This album is very personal, and some of the songs have been written years before the album was released. I think people will have mixed responses and opinions towards this album – you really do either love it or hate it. I think that some people would find it easy to find a song to relate to, however if someone is a huge fan o heavy metal music or classical music, there’s a high chance they might not enjoy the album as much as someone who listens to a similar genre of music to Nina’s would.

Nina is not a typical mainstream artist, and that is one to the things people like about her Nowadays pretty much everyone’s music sounds the same and there’s not much difference between artists, but when it comes to Nina this is not the case. Her songs are not often played on the radio, although a few o her songs have been played on the radio, she is not as famous as someone like Beyoncé or Ariana Grande, well at least not yet. For people to consume her music they would have to buy the album on iTunes or by a CD as it is not a commonly played album. ‘Peroxide’ is the perfect album to listen to when you’re doing work, and you need something to listen to in the background, yet it is also appropriate for listening to when you’re going through a break up, or you’re in a relationship, maybe I you’re in a bad mood, there’s something on this album for everyone. However people would have different responses to the album depending on their own personal preferences, however, it would not appeal to people such as the Mainstreamers as they like big established names, which is the opposite to what Nina is at the moment. The explorers would enjoy Nina’s music as they like to try new things, and this type of music is different to the social norms.
