Guilty Pleasure Week

Misfits is about a group of offenders named Nathan, Kelly, Curtis, Simon and Alisha who have to take part in community service as a way of paying back for a crime they have committed they believe its going to be boring and dull but it ends up becoming the opposite. During their community service they are struck by lighting and develop superpowers and they find out they are not the only ones for this to happen to. The target audience for this text would be teenagers and young adults round the age of 30, it would not be suitable for a younger and older audience because of the constant use of blasphemy and swear words, also the constant sexual references and the odd sexual scene which could be unsettling and something you wouldn't watch with your Mum or Dad.

I  believe this text isn't something I would consume because the general plot seems a bit cliché and boring and fairly basic, 'a group of teenagers develop superpowers' is something that has been done time and time again, but its the fact the show is sort of a joke and plays on that idea and the characters become anti heroes and in fact use their powers to rob a bank instead of protecting innocent and vulnerable people. So down to the fact the show is something I believed I had seen time and time again I didn't think I would bother in watching it, but I eventually did and I really enjoyed it although it is a bit rude and involves a lot of crude language, but that is why I see it as a guilty pleasure because really I shouldn't enjoy it but I really did and still do. I do consume it with a preferred reading as it intends to amuse its audience using crude language and funny sexual references especially with the use of the character Nathan who is used to generally amuse the audience with his stupidity and general funny and uncaring attitude towards life and how he uses humour as a sort of defence mechanism when he is nervous or being insulted. Others may take a opposite reading and find the sexual references and the language too much and might find it annoying as to how much it is actually used, for example a younger audience would not be ready or used to the constant crude language and therefore would not enjoy it and would have a negative view on it. Older audiences would also have a negative opinion because they to would not see the blasphemy and crude language suitable and would put them off the show completely because it occurs frequently.

For me the film combines something I enjoy In superhero films and superpowers, even though I've seen it all before but combines it with a sense of crude comedy and amusement from characters stupidity and experiences which is something very unique in its own way and brings a different show. This would appeal for the explorer audience who would like something different and a mixture between two different genres like superhero and comedy to create a different sub genre which is very hard to comprehend but very amusing.
