Media Diary; Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus

So, it's guilty pleasures week. I actually struggled to even let myself admit this, because I always pride myself on being an honest person who is true to their word, and if you knew anything about me, you would know I am usually 100% against any sort of explicit, over paid, naked, pop star. But not Miley Cyrus.

Since a young age she was an idol of mine, of course because she took on the persona of the world famous Hannah Montana, however over the years, her music has gone from country girl, to depthless pop, and her image; well... no need to explain that. But despite this, for some reason, I don't even care, and I still love Miley.

Usually, her music would appal to a mainstreamer, especially lately, as her spotlight in the public eye has lasted nearly as long as the amount of time since her last hometown visit where she 'returns to her true roots'. When it comes to music, I am probably the furthest thing from a mainstreamer, but for whatever diabolical reason, Miley Cyrus seems to be some sort of exception. When I was younger I was obsessed with her as Hannah Montana, and it seems to me that whatever outrageous stunt she pulls, they never disgust me as they usually would if it were to come from GaGa or Rihanna.

As far as her appalling 'music' goes, I hate it. Every last screeching word and cringey lyric, but I still listen. And as for the detestable outfits and clothing choices, they're even worse. So I would say that overall I take a negotiated reading to Miley. I would say oppositional, however I think it is time to be honest with myself and admit that I still have a soft spot for Miley Cyrus, almost ten years since the first episode of Hannah Montana.
