The Nights - Avicii
Camera / Editing:
The camera in this video is mostly handheld, as it is taken from a GoPro camera (a small webcam-like camera designed to travel with). Most of the video is taken by the people themselves as they perform various stunts or go to various locations. There is no special effects in this video, except maybe a few filters to make it more colourful but on the whole the majority of the video is raw footage. There is also a lot of time manipulation there is slow motion footage when 'Rory' base jumps and then there are moments where the videos are time lapsed in order to speed up the process of travelling around etc.
Narrative:
The story follows a man named Rory, who's father told him when he was 16 that he could do anything he wanted in life so long as he worked hard enough to get it. It then shows him years later travelling the world having an amazing time. We see him take part in numerous activities such as base jumping, water sliding, wind surfing, speedboating and travelling around all of the world most fantastic destinations including Los Angeles and New York and well as other Mediterranean locations. The idea behind the story is to motivate people and show them what ca happen if you work hard enough and have a little bit of luck on your side.
Conventional / Unconventional:
The video itself is quite unconventional in the sense that it is not scripted. In fact, it doesn't even look like he was intending to make a music video with the footage, it looks more like he is just using some of his own personal videos to put together a compilation for the song (which could actually be the case). The video is completely real and none of it is CGI or fake, which shows to us the true beauty of the world itself and how amazing it can be.
