representations of women in advertising
CONSTRUCTIONIST VIEW:
The woman is wearing makeup. this is a stereotype is the old-fashioned woman use to 'dress to impress' her lover. this ensures that she looks attractive for him to enjoy. She appears to be confident. this is because of the way she has folded her arms with the steam mop firmly in place. this shows that she's confident and successful when it comes to cleaning and housework. She wears a bandana in her hair which is typical of the old-fashioned housewife participating in cleaning. this takes the hair back so that it doesn't get in the way whilst she is busy. this all connotes a women's confidence and expertise in cleaning.
the encoders have included information on surfaces to use it on and used the word 'deep' to describe how thorough the clean level is. this hints that the encoders intend to display the clean in a way that only a woman can accomplish due to the image. the advert is simple to draw attention to the main image. the encoders have intended to show how strong woman are if they participate in this 'deep cleaning' by purchasing the product.
the audience for this advert is woman. this is becasue of the main image and the way in which she is represente. it doesnt display a man doing the cleaning, it shows a woman geared up and ready to accomplish the deep clean. this automatically assumes that woman will be the ones using it most. it represents them as stronger than thought of generally because of her determined and somewhat happy facial expression.
