Use when discussing similarities between Boyles work and Loachs work when suggesting Trainspotting is a social realist film

'While the mise-en-scene in Ken Loach's films features deprived living spaces and estates, he also uses the British countryside in symbolic ways' -Similarly in Trainspotting, Boyle chooses deprived Edinburgh as his main setting, and the scene in which the Scottish countryside can be seen in contrast to the 4 men.
