Blade Runner Opening Analysis
Blade Runner's opening sequence is incredible
because of the effects. There is only two shots that are mainly used. These are
extreme wide shots and extreme close ups. These shots are used to show the
audience the location, which should be the opening to any film. It shows how
the planet has changed in the future.
The film is set in 2019,
which is still the future now. It shows a darker world and a polluted world.
The sky is very dark and brown showing this polluted world. The buildings have
explosions coming out of the top of them. This shows that something has gone
wrong on Earth and it has ruined the way of life. The cars that go past are
very few. This shows that not many people go outside anymore, especially
because in the Los Angelas we know today there are many people always outside. This
shows that there may be a problem with the government.
The extreme close up of the eye is very mysterious because we don’t
know whom it is or why it is here. The reflection of the flames in the eye
shows how it is just taking in the world around it. The eye represents the
audience because the audience is seeing this world for the first time. The eye
is just watching what is happening like us and shows no emotion. It adds to the
negativity of the world and how it is a dystopian world. The environment shows
that the world may be after a war that has devastated the planet. The war may
have been between the Replicants and the Humans.
