The mainstream unlike
the other 3 media texts tends to be the one we all fall into/or familiarize ourselves
with. They stay there normal selves and rarely ever branch out of the
mainstream. When it comes to the latest trend, gadget or movie, the mainstream
will get what it wants. A TV show that perfectly describes the mainstream is ‘Britain’s
Got Talent’. Britain Got Talent: like many talent shows, appeals to the
mainstream as it lets those fit in. It lets those fit in due to its popularity
but also because it will be talked about many times.
The aspirer’s number goal is to always look good and stay
ahead of the game. They value others opinions rather than their own. A media
text that perfectly describes the aspirer is a magazine called ‘Elle’ Elle is a
magazine purely for fashion. However the magazines gives the impression that
girls should like the models in the pictures.
The succeeder’s are those who go out and try to achieve their
best no matter what it takes. A media text that would describe them the best is
a TV programme called ‘The Apprentice’. The apprentice allows the suceeders to
give their best on a weekly basis when they face a task. Not only that but it
also gives the suceeder a chance to improve.
The Explorer are those who want to live the adventure and be
first to experience new things. An example of a media text is the film called ‘127
Hours’ The film is based around a man who loves the adrenaline of exploring
above and beyond.
A programme that is currently on TV right now is ‘Pound Shop
Wars’ which is a documentary about the owner of PoundWorld who always looks for
improvement while battling with it rivals stores. The programme is always shown
every Wednesday night at around 7:30 and appeals to all who are either
employed/unemployed or in their mid-thirties. Stereotypically I think the
viewer would be a parent than a child due to the nature of the programme. I also
think it could be male/female watching given they are interested in the
business aspects of things.
