Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman is a classic romantic comedy directed by Garry Marshall, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. I found this film through my auntie. The original purpose of the text was to inform viewers about social class but was later constructed into the popular rom com it is today.
I think the target audience of Pretty Woman is young girls to middle aged women who enjoy stories about falling in love, friendship and chasing your dreams no matter how far away they may seem. I thoroughly enjoyed the text and it is one of my favourite films. Gere and Roberts work well on screen together and their chemistry on screen is very believable. However their occupations are at completely opposite ends of the spectrum in the film and despite the story being based in LA, it is somewhat unrealistic. The soundtrack fits very well with the text, it is upbeat and fast paced, just like the relationship between the two.
Consumers who enjoy 'Cinderella' stories would watch this film because it falls into that category. I think people could react differently to the text because they may find it cheesy or unrealistic. Also, they may react differently to it because they prefer a little more comedy in romantic films.
