Production Companies
All these production companies contributed to the films success, as they are successful organisations within themselves.
Budget
The film was projected to cost around $15 Million dollars, however it was offered just $5 Million dollars by Warner Independent Pictures, who subsequently won the rights to the picture. There was also a lot more funding from a variety of companies, that helped to make the film a success.
Crew
Despite the widely unknown cast, the crew had some fairly big names that lead to the success of the film. Most notably Danny Boyle, who has directed many other successful films such as Trainspotting, 127 Hours and 28 Days Later, and despite the film being directed by such a British film pioneer, the cast is predominately Indian.
Casting
The casting choices in this film were fairly interesting, as despite the big name crew and production companies, the actors were very low key. For example actors such as Dev Petel and Saurabh Shukla were cast, despite the fact not being previously successful in film. This decision was most probably made in order to add to the realism of the film
Problems
There were some problems with the after the production, for example, idid receive substantial academic criticism over what was deemed as a false and inaccurate representation of the poverty stricken in India, as well as the realism of it. There were also certain controversies surrounding the film, such as the welfare and illegal housing of the child actors, as well as its portrayal of Indian communities.
