Media Diary Entry 1: Review of a Media Product: Film - Frozen

One of Disney's best-selling movies is the box office hit 'Frozen'. Having unique and iconic animated characters that millions of children and adults have fallen in love with, this film made millions for the film-making company. The main story of the film follows sisters Elsa and Anna as Queen Elsa's magic ice power cause an eternal winter in Arendelle. When Elsa disappears, her sister Anna embarks on a journey with some new friends to find Elsa and bring back summer for the rest of Arendelle.

This is an animated movie, therefore the characters and all action happening on screen has been drawn and created with graphic technology. Also, this film is based around winter weather and was released in cinemas during the Christmas season, however the movie itself is set in summer. This shows how the film is appropriate for all seasons. The music has been created specifically for the movie, with unique and catchy riffs to grab the attention of millions of people to sing along. Many of the songs used in this film have been covered by other music artists, such as the most famous song from the movie 'Let it go' which has been covered many times and topped download charts. During the tense and dramatic parts of the movie, the background music and sound will become more dangerous, loud and sudden. This is used in the movie to add to the appeal and the drama of these scenes. It makes them more exciting and interesting for the viewers to watch. During the aftermath of these dramatic scenes in the movie, slow and quiet music is used to allow the viewers to reel over what they have just witnessed. This will give the reader something calming and relaxing listen to after a dramatic and fast scene.

Some of the main themes of the movie includes love. This is shown in the special bond between sisters Elsa and Anna, as they eventually rekindle the love that they had for each other in their childhoods. The bonding between different characters are all very unique and show very different outcomes. The bond between Christov and his companion Sven the reindeer is entertaining and rather unusual, as they are at first reluctant to help anyone besides themselves. Soon they mutually learn to love other people, as Christov finds love in another person and Sven befriends another cast member. Subtle hints to raise awareness for climate change are also key to the movie. It shows how the sudden change can have a huge effect on the people and animals in a city or kingdom. Queen Elsa is used to represent the worst – cast scenarios of severe climate change, as she is the one with the power to change everything. Also, there is a huge theme of femininity in the film as both of the main characters are female.

The main audience for this movie is children, as it is a family friendly animated Disney movie. However, I believe that because of the cleverly-crafted storyline and the captivating plot-twists, this movie is to be loved by people of all ages. I personally enjoyed the movie very much and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. My favourite aspect of the film was the amazing specialised music that the cast members recorded for the movie. The filmmakers chose extremely talented artists to act as the voices for the on-screen characters and sing for the songs that their characters sung. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of Disney movies.
