Media Diary Week 3, Audience Clasification For Battle Royal

This week I watched the movie ‘Battle Royal’ which is a movie about Chinese teenagers who are put onto an island and have to kill each other within three days until there is one left. At the end of the three days if there is more than one person alive then they are all killed, this movie is what ‘the hunger games’ is based upon but a lot more brutal and harsh. I think out of the 4C’s this movie would appeal to the explorer as it is a very unconventional and alternative movie. Their core need in life is for discovery and this movie can give them just that as it is so different and as ‘the hunger games’ is quite mainstream this movie is what it is based on and not many people know that so it is just for the individual and their needs. This movie is also challenging and talks about the high population in China and that this was a way for them to reduce that, so it talks about real problems they face in China but it chooses to show how they reduced it in a strange and alternative way that is obviously fake but looks very believable.

For someone to watch this movie I think they would probably be early twenties through to early thirties with a good education, I think this because the concept of the movie is quite different and it is all subtitled so a lot of people will not have the attention span to watch a movie for so long and read it all, in addition to this they may not fully understand the movie do to the fact they are reading so the movie might just not flow. I also think people would watch this film alone to fully consume it as if they were doing other things they would lose the storyline. I think the person watching this must have at least a basic level of knowledge on politics as they must know about China and the one child policy and of how their population is so big as this movie has a large portion of it based upon their laws.

For the life style categories I think this movie would appeal to the drifters and rebels. I say this because the rebels want the world to fit into how they think things should be and this movie is very challenging of what is normal and it is very different from other movies. I also think the drifters would possibly fit into the target audience as it is different and the drifters aren’t really sure what they want and this movie is so alternative that it might help them to see what type of movie they enjoy and they might so happen to like the unconventional.

Overall I think this movie is perfect for people that want to explore new things and maybe challenge different aspects because you can question a lot that happens in the movie. In addition to this because it is so different and good people can talk about it and have a conversation about how they believe wit will end because the full doesn’t fully say so it leave the movie to your own imagination.
