Guilty pleasures Media Diary- Week 6

Whilst we have a week off for half term from college I am planning on watching the all of the Game Of Thrones seasons so far. The target audience for this text would be Male and Female around the ages of 16+. from various stages on the income/ status model such as D to B. And would appeal to the mainstream.

This isn't a media I would consume due its graphic scenes of violence, however I have enjoyed the drama and suspense that comes with the show.  Game of Thrones has become very popular in a short amount of time , which means that most of it's audience would be mainstream. I try to stray away from mainstream programmes as I like to discover new types of media. However, I started watching this as most of friends have watched it and enjoyed it and have influenced me to watch it also.

I take a preferred reading to this text and just enjoy it as it is. This is because I cannot compare the text to modern day life and to me there is no way to take a negotiated or oppositional reading.

The basic appeals for this media text for me would be the need to escape. Game of thrones is a fantasy can be used as an escapism form reality.  It is a form of escapism form the pressures of everyday life and is a source of entertainment. Social interaction is apart of this text. I have friends who watch this programme and after an episode we sometimes talk about what happened in it.
