      Junip - Line Of Fire

The opening shows an old couple carrying on with the same boring life as they have always had through their lives. It shows how life is not always good and we just drift through it like nothing is happening to us. The video goes through certain milestones in a persons life and these moments are meant to be happy because it's his first kiss and girlfriend so he should be happy but instead there is no emotion on his face. He is drifting through one milestone to the next without any care in the world.

The shot were the old man is alone in the bedroom suggests that he is alone and doesn't have a wife or family anymore but later we see is wife and it changes the perception of the shot. It now shows how he may feel alone and like his wife never loved him and they are together but feel separated. The next shot shows his wife on an exercise machine and is running on it. This shows how she may feel trapped and lost so she is using her initiative and running away from the danger. The next shot shows them both in the bathroom getting ready for bed but they are just repeating the same motion over and over again. This is another shot that is telling us they are not really together  but are because they are conforming to societies norms and they felt they had to. This explains why they are just drifting through life and how they don't actually want to be here but they feel they have to be. This sets up the rest of the narrative for the rest of the video and makes the audience intrigued.

The shot of the picture of Jesus shows how they used to or tried to put their faith into religion but felt that they weren't getting the answers they wanted so they gave up and turned their backs on it because in the shot they are faced the other way. They both look as though they had tried to do this because the camera shows us them and then the picture as though the picture is in the past because it is in the background but the camera starts to zoom in to it. The scene were the flashback shows the man and women as children and how they were together from the start. It shows their first kiss but there is no emotion and they are both just conforming to the social conventions. They look as though they are just doing it to look normal to others and not be judged by everyone.

Another way of looking at this is death. The woman is clearly older than him because we can see this from the flashbacks. The man is looking upset and lost showing that she may have died. He looks angry in the mirror that he has to carry on with life without her and the picture of Jesus shows that she may have gone to heaven and left him. The woman looks lost in the present day but more awake in the past showing again how she may have died and left him alone to carry on with life.

The camera is positioned mostly in low angles in the present and not in the past. This shows the difference in time and how their lives have changed over the years. There are a lot of cuts used in the video and this shows how their lives have been very jumpy and thrown together. This works well because it shows their lives very well and how they have changed over time. However the narrative can be quite hard to follow and therefore needs to be watched several time to make the audience understand it.
