Semiotic analysis

1: Masthead
The masthead used for this magazine cover is 'Teen Vogue' this is iconic for the magazine as 'Vogue' means fashionable and popular in French indicating that the magazine will be high up in the fashion industry and have many updates on the latest trends. In addition to this it says teen indicating is it for teenagers and people of a younger generation can pick it up and relate might more to it than just 'Vogue' which has an older target audience. The masthead is in white and red, the 'teen' art is in red and a much younger styled font indicating the magazine is fun and for younger people, this is in contrast to the white 'vogue' part which has a very elegant font suggesting that there is still a high lever of class and sophistication as part of the magazine.White is also a universal colour that matches everything and the only other thing that is white on the cover is the jacket Kylie is wearing, in addition to this the name is so known and iconic that is will catch the consumers eye all the time and stand out to them.

2: Main Image
Kylie Jenner is the central protagonist for the 'Teen Vogue' cover, this will be relatable for young teenagers as she is a reality star and the audience will be able to identify themselves with her. Also due to her being on the reality show 'keeping up with the Kardashians' her whole life has been caught on camera and people might have grown up watching that TV show and they believe that they have gone through similar situations and that they personally know her due to this. Her body language in this image is very relaxed and laid back which is how most teenagers are like on a day to day basis especially if they are reading the magazine, it also looks like she is on a beach reinforcing the idea of relaxing. Kylie is also in the foreground and in focus so we can fully see her and focus on her, she is also wearing minimal natural makeup so people can identify with her as a teen as many teens do not like wearing makeup which also signifies her youth. In addition to this the cover is very simplistic and give off a natural youthful vide and the picture is not of Kylie clubbing or partying she is simply in a jacket at the beach wearing some fashionable jewellery to spice up the image and make it look much more sophisticated and high fashion. 
 
3: Layout and Mise-en-scene
In this image everything is laid out very organised giving the impression that the organisation will be carried on throughout the whole content of the magazine, this is also in contrast to teens as they are usually unorganised and adults are usually organised giving the impression the teen that read 'Teen Vogue' due to the sophistication of the magazine they are organised unlike most teens. The setting of this magazine is at what looks like a beach also relating to the relaxing atmosphere of the magazine and a teen's lifestyle to go out enjoy the sun and have fun with their friends indicating that this will be carried out in the magazine. In addition to this the colours used are predominantly black, white and red which are universal colours and are very sophisticated and bold, these colours are very vivid and draw your eyes to the cover lines of the magazine. Also it draws your eyes to words such as 'exclusive' and 'special' implying that this magazine has specialised information and only this magazine has the exclusive news.
 
4: Interpellation
A direct mode of address is used to draw the consumers attention, Kylie is looking directly at the camera which establishes a relationship between magazine and reader, this will make the reader believer that Kylie is looking directly at them and that all the cover lines are directed towards them. The unique selling point 'exclusive' indicated that this magazine has the latest gossip that no other magazine had giving this magazine an edge over other magazines also drawing the consumer in as they will want the latest details of this and the latest gossip of that time. The cover line ' your ultimate guide to cool-girl style' indicates that fashion and looking good is important to the reader of this magazine and that the content of this magazine will include a lot of fashion tip and tricks. In addition to this the cover lines 'music special' and 'fresh new sound' signify that there will be a lot of thing about music in the magazine so it is good for all music lovers.

5: Target audience
The target audience for 'Teen Vogue' would be the aspirer as they care more for a pretty package than what is on the inside, they like the idea that the cover looks good so they wouldn't really care what is inside as long at the front of the magazine looks good. The aspirer likes style over substance and this magazine appeals to just that, there core need is for status and this magazine will give them that as it is such a big magazine with a large social status. In addition to this the magazine is targeted to teenagers and teens are very high up and their lives revolve around the social media so this magazine will give them something to talk about with friends, also it might give them the opportunity to be better than their friends as they know exclusive things due to the magazine.
