The movies and gayness have had oddly parallel lives these past hundred years. Both of them have grown, mutated, regressed. Sometimes even taken unexpected turns.
by a shared century, both were generally accepted yet fiercely argued over, mainstreamed, decried , discussed, and argued over, praised and banned, legislated and regimented.
in the earliest years, it was blunt stereotypes of gay/ lesbian
their presences in early films are, for all the affront, fairly representative of how they were treated when they ventured out into the real world.
