Pretty Little Liars Review.
Pretty Little Liars is an American teen drama series, which firstly began as a series of thrilling books by author Sara Shepard.
The show stars 5 teenage girls; Aria, Emily, Hanna, Spencer and Alison in their mystical and haunting teenage lives. Why is it so mysterious? They do not live the ordinary teenage lives. Since 2010 their every move has been followed by 'A'. Not only has the mystifying 'A' been stalking every step, but they have been tortured, threatened, and sent cryptic messages; which is how it all began, when their clique falls apart after the alleged 'death' of ring leader Alison Dilaurentis.
So, who is 'A'?
That is the question over 4 million people worldwide are asking. This is what makes the show so addicting. We get involved. We are on this journey with the girls. Just when we, and the Liars, think they have got to grips with 'A', the plot twists. It makes us feel all the emotions; empathetic, shock, excited and mostly addicted to our TV. But it is why I love this show. We get to know their secrets. The content that the writers, directors, and producers are creating is fresh and unique.
The non-digetic sounds and music used in the show adds the suspense of Pretty Little Liars. We get a feel for the eerie atmosphere when we hear the theme tune which consists of a weird sounding female voice, with images like a coffin and an eye closing with black eye-shadow. The lighting used in the opening theme is dark, again giving us an indication of the eerie atmosphere of the show before it has even began.
In tension filled scenes, we begin to feel apprehensive due to close up camera shot of the girls faces, joined with a parallel slow deep sound. It contributes to the addiction of the show as I am eager to know what is going to happen next. No one knows.
I am not a huge fan of murder mystery series, but Pretty Little Liars is different. It deals with real life issues, and although at time unrealistic, you will relate with one of the characters. We empathize with the victims and we begin to get so involved in their lives. I recommend it to everyone; boy, girl, old or young. I promise you will become addicted after episode 1. You will not regret it.
