Love Rosie is a film directed by Christian Ditter, it is a romantic comedy. It is about a girl and boy who have grew up together. Rosie and Alex. Who are played by Lilly Collins and Sam Claflin . The film is realistic as it focus's on ordinary people. There are aspects of love, friendship and realism. I feel like the people who watch this would be working class as they would relate to the characters the most. I would classify this text to be linked to the mainstreamer as these people live in the world of the domestic and the everyday, their life choices are 'we' rather than 'me'. I think this relates a lot to the film as in the film Rosie finds herself to be pregnant so she has to put her future to the side while she focus' on looking after her baby and the daily routine of the repetitive sleepless nights, midnight feeds and stress. I also feel like people who have babies or children could relate to Rosies life so it could maybe put them at ease knowing they are not the only one and there are people struggling everywhere, but it will get better.
Preferred Reading
I think that the preferred reading of the text is supposed to represent realism and everyday life. I think the directors, writers and cast wants us to relate to Rosies life and to fall in love with the characters and story line. They have written a film where it makes it hard not to relate or feel something . I would also say that family is an important ideology as the film shows strong bonds and even if a family isn't nuclear sticking together is important. The text celebrates the theme off love and companionship as it is a romantic comedy it shows the audience that love is possible as they are really genuine, everyday people. I would say that the underlying messages in the film are that most of the time teenage pregnancy is demonised for example, its labeled as bad and there are terms which are used to describe a young girl with a baby. However, this film presents a young pregnant women who does go through struggles with coping with a child but proves to the audience that she can provide for her child and put her first. This could inspire other young mothers that it will get better. Finally, it tells us that life is not always perfect but it will eventually get better.
Oppositional Reading
Other people who watch this film may take a different persepective as they will view it as negative, for example, seeing a young women getting pregnant with a man and not bringing the child up with that same man could be seen as bad as it goes against some ideologies for example, people who follow religious beliefs and follow all tenets could show a strong opinion to the film as they think that love is all about procreation they could argue that not having a nuclear family is wrong. People could also argue that is promoting young mothers and its influencing people to have children younger. Moreover, people who watch this film could argue that having a heterosexual couple is typical or done before. They might well be homosexual or bisexual that hope a film comes out that could relate to them more.
Negotiated Reading
Another way readers might view the text is to agree with text to some extent for example, they could relate to some parts of the audiences life but some parts they don't relate or agree. So they may not be religious but they could see why religious people could be offended or that they understand its a heterosexual relationship but agree with the view point that it has been done before. They understand the concept of the film and get what the writers, cast, directors are aiming to do however, they have opinion's about what could be changed or made better by their own opinion. Also being brought up in a multicultural diverse place will influence your opinion on what reading you tend to use.
