Paladins: Champions of the Realm
Target Audience:
This game can apply to egoists with its "flashy" in game items that are very pricey but give your character flair. It also has the potential to apply to mainstreamers as class based shooters are quite popular at the current time. This is shown by its release in September 16th and its instant rocket into 6th most played game on Steam in current time. However, it can apply to explorers as the game is quite unique.
Preferred Reading:
The game can be shown quite complex however, the game is seen as a fun and upbeat with intensive orchestral background music. Also, the game is shown to reinforce the egoists and aspirers idea that having expensive items makes them better but it retains a fair game for people who just want to play for fun. This could be compared to games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive, DOTA 2 and League of Legends in which you could buy items to make your character look more appealing.
Oppositional Reading:
Someone may understand how the game can be fun but in the end decline the idea as it is just regarded as an "Overwatch" clone as it shares many similarities to the game. The consumer may see the game as "too much" as there are 17 classes and also multiple ways to augment characters through cards and loadouts, combined with the numerous abilities and items. This may be overwhelming for a game that is mostly aimed at fantasy fans and also casual players. This is also highlighted by the fact that one of the gamemode's name is 'Casual'.
Negotiated Reading:
A negotiated reading may be that the game is just a clone and is one of many being released, just totally rejecting the idea that the game was released before. Another negotiated reading may be that the fantasy genre as a whole is just for 'nerds'. Finally, another rejection might be that the game just isn't what they want and the developers are 'money hungry' for adding in the ability to buy weapon and character 'skins' with real money.
