You Belong With Me- Taylor Swift

Narrative
Its about a nerdy boy and a popular girl who live next door to each other and the nerdy girl has a big crush on the nerdy boy and they write messages to each other through the window. The nerdy girl (played by Taylor Swift) tries on different outfits to create a different identity to try and get him to like her, however there is a problem, he already has a girlfriend and she's the popular cheerleader (also played by Swift). nerdy Taylor and the boy start hanging out but this gets ruined by his girlfriend. They then start talking to each other through the window about the school dance to which Swift responds she's not going and reveals she was going to tell him she loved him with a note. She ends up going to the dance and has a complete transformation and no longer looks nerdy, the boy is clearly stunned by her new look. She then proceeds to pull out the note she was going to give to him and he has the same note in his pocket that also say i love you, so it turns out he liked her all along.

Convention/unconventional
This music video has a very typical storyline as its about the nerdy girl who has a transformation and gets her dream boy. Even though a lot of this video is typical there are some parts which haven't been seen before, such as the note writing through the window and Swift playing two characters who are both enemies.

Visuals
The visuals in this video are rather simple however there are some parts which even though are simplistic are also effective, for example the part when she's trying on all the different the camera is solely focused on her reflection in the mirror or the scene when she dancing and we see her from the boys pov. The music video is set in typical settings such as her bedroom and at a school dance.

What works/what doesn't
I think the music video works but its a very typical theme in music videos and films. I do however find some parts rather cringey and confusing such as why does he have that note in his pocket even though she said she's not going to the dance. Other than that i find it enjoyable to watch and was happy for the characters at the end. It may not be the most original idea but its entertaining and does work!
