Artist: Sonny and Cher.
Track: I Got You Babe.
Genre: Folk.
Visual Style/Mise-en-scene:
This music video is in black and white however that is due to the time period it was filmed in. There are a lot of medium close ups (MCUs) in the video which highlights both of the singers that are lip-syncing. There are also tracking shots that track backwards to show how the singers are on TV and that they have an audience. In this video, there are close ups and over the shoulder shots which are used when only one of the pair is singing. The pace of the music video matches the pace of the track.
Narrative:
The narrative of the video is shown through the tracking shots. These tracking shows show us that the singers are being watched on television which gives us the impression that they are on a talent show. The narrative is also shown by the singers actions. They laugh in between lines which makes them look unprofessional which links to the music video concept.
Conventional/Unconventional:
This music video uses typical conventions of music videos such as singing/lip-syncing to the camera. However this convention is challenged as the singers are actually singing to an audience behind a television screen. This makes it seem like we are watching a TV show inside of the music video which makes it quite unique.
What works/What doesn't:
What works in this video is the televison idea. The idea that we are watching people watching singers on a TV makes the video quite interesting to watch. Despite this, because the singers stand in one position throughout and there isn't much movement, the video can get boring and make the audience lose interest.
