Music Video Research (Childish Gambino - Sweatpants)

Artist: Childish Gambino
Song: Sweatpants
Camera/Editing:
The establishing shot of the diner gives us our main setting, as the majority of the video revolves around this place. There isn't really a variety of camera shots through the video rather just a medium shot tracking him makes it feel claustrophobic as the path isn't the largest however it contrasts the long shot giving the audience the reminder that there are other people besides him. This in addition with the transitions between walk-throughs changing characters to him each time emphasises the hook.
Narrative:
There is some form of a story as the hook practically creates the story as him doing him "better than you doing you" is him saying he doesn't care and only thinks for himself. This selfish persona is directly shown by each revisit of the diner more background characters become him, this could be suggested as him becoming more indulged with himself eventually doing himself so much that everyone is him and not being surprised or scared of it as the character may think "this is what he is supposed to be" therefore having no shock value for him, being widely aware, but yet kind of creepy for the audience.
Conventional/Unconventional:
I'd suggest it being entirely unique as I am yet to see a video so self indulged with a character (in this case himself) yet emphasising the lyrics as they are all about his fame that is ever-growing, and typically with fame comes ego which is perfectly shown with every character becoming him, his lack of a reaction shows he knows what is happening yet it doesn't fuss him. Furthermore, he himself breaks the fourth wall as he looks directly at the camera addressing the audience about Fisker (car) going "vroom vroom" it is emphasised with the beat drop and change of tone which may be referencing how rich people are so ignorant about their bragging that they can politically wrong and Donald (Childish Gambino) addressing it to the camera almost like he himself is bragging about his awareness of it.
What works/What doesn't:
In my opinion I do not enjoy the outro' as if you singularly watch the video it feels entirely out of place although I do understand it in the grand scheme of the music video sequence, as the sequence of the album it's fits with the story he has created, even addressing it as "a screen play".
