Artist: Chris Brown & Tyga
Track: Ayo
Director: Colin Tiley
Camera/Editing/Visual Style/Mise-en-scene
At the beginning of the video we see two the two rap artists in medium shots trying to upstage one another by who has the most money and luxuries. The music video is set between various scenes to show their wealth such as mansions to high angle shots of drag racing in Lamborghinis. The preview before the track begins also reinforces the whole concept of wealth in the video by including a non-diegetic sound of a royal-like song playing in the background whilst Tyga has a gold plated toilet installed in his mansion along with long shots of a tiger walking around it. When the song begins the first shot we see is a birds eye view of Chris brown lying on a floating bed in his pool with money floating around him to show he has so much money that he can afford to waste it like that. We also see cuts consisting of at the most 3 seconds of expensive cars lined up to signify to show off how much money the two artists are making. In the video when the camera cuts to Chris Brown and Tyga rapping, the angle of the camera is a low angle to show the rappers dominance. We also see close up shots in a wind tunnel of the artist's faces to show their expression towards money. Towards the end after the drag racing the pair are standing on top of a sky rise with visuals of a cities skyline in the background whilst the camera acts as if they are being recorded by a police camera from a helicopter from a high angle. For the most part, the editing cuts from a slow pace to a normal pace throughout the video.
Narrative
The story of the music video is of two rappers who are trying to upstage each other on who has the most money. The video goes back on forth on the two flaunting their wealth from women playing polo on horses to drag racing in Lamborghinis
Conventional/Unconventional
The genre of the track is Hip Hop and this video uses a lot of the conventions used in Hip Hop music videos. Those conventions being the use of props such as money, expensive cars, expensive clothes, lots of gold jewellery, luxurious mansions and how many girls they can get. Therefore the music video is very conventional.
