Hot n Cold- Katy Perry







Narrative
The video is about a young couple on their wedding day, at the alter the bride (Katy Perry) says "i do"  the groom however seems to be having second thoughts and proceeds to run out of the venue and out into the street. Katy them runs after him in a rather psychotic way and corners him in various different locations, joined by her bridesmaids they all try to catch him, even though he clearly doesn't want to be followed.

Conventional/unconventional
There are both conventional and unconventional parts to this music video. For example the young good looking couple are typical of most music videos, also there are scenes when Katy is on a stage miming the lyrics to her song and choreographed dance scenes, this once again is very typical of music videos. However a lot of this music video is very unconventional such as the runaway groom, its usually a runaway bride. As well as the runaway groom the video is unique in the sense that Katy plays a very psychotic bride who is stalking her groom and has a choreographed dance with her bridesmaids and somewhere along the line brings a zebra and male bridesmaid into the mix, this is very original idea and makes for an interesting video.

Visuals
During the wedding scene the camera does a lot of close ups on the grooms, brides, bridesmaids and guests face to show the shock and emotions thats going on when the groom goes silent, this makes the audience watching feel tense and awkward. There is a scene at the end were the groom is on the floor and the camera does a high angle shot of him, this makes him look weak and not in control. The colours start off very bright when their at the wedding venue but the colours get progressively darker when she's on the stage after the runaway happens. In the stage scene the camera does some very extreme close ups on her items of clothing which appear to really zoom in on the brand it is, which is diesel, this is presumably the brand she is sponsored by.

What works/what doesn't
I think this video works as its so original and unique yet cheesy at the same time. I think some bits works almost too well that it makes me cringe, for example the part were she there is just magically a bike for her to follow him on or the weird crowd surf. Apart from the cheesy bits i think that this music video is a really good idea and works well.
