Stan-Eminem

Narrative
The story is about a boy named Stan who writes letters to Eminem, who he has an obsession with, the lyrics are supposed to be the words he's writing on the letter. He wants to be like him and dyes his hair like Eminem and even has a room full of posters with Eminem's face on them, these letters are very creepy. This causes arguments between him and his girlfriend, who is pregnant with his child, as he's acting differently. Each letter he writes to Eminem he gets more and more angry as he has yet to get a reply from him. One night his girlfriend finds the creepy room Stan has dedicated to Eminem, she finds pictures were he has covered her face and replaced them with Eminem's. He finds his pregnant girlfriend in the room and proceeds to shove her. It then shows him in a car and it is brought to the audience attention that he has killed his girlfriend and is going to throw her off a bridge which he tells Eminem in a message he records for him. The bridge is out of bounds and under construction however he misses the sign as he is still recording his message and drives over the bridge, it then shows two people at Stan's grave. It then shows Eminem finally writing back to Stan, clearly unaware of his death, he then sees his name and realises that he seen his name on the news and realises that Stan is dead.

Conventional/unconventional
In my opinion this music video is very unconventional, its nothing like i have every seen before. Its very clever and unique! I think the most unconventional part is the fact that the rap lyrics are the words of the letters being sent. Even though its unique its very twisted, so twisted that it would
be hard for any other music video to try and replicate it. I think that the whole music video is entered around a fan of his is also very original.

Visuals
i think that the video relies more on the storyline than the visuals. However thats not to say that the visuals are by any means rubbish. The scene when Stan crashes is very interesting as just before the crash it shows you the pov of Stan going over the bridge, this makes the audience relate to what Stan's going through and gets the audience more involved. It also shows the car under the water. The camera shows many close up shots of Stan, i think they have done this to show the audience what Stan's feeling, we see the anger and frustration in Stan's face when he doesn't get a reply from his idol. The colours in this video are very dark and eery, this is to match the dark and eery storyline!

What works/what doesn't
i think this video is very well thought out and it all fits together well and works. The story isn't particularly confusing and is quite easy to follow along. If i has to pick one thing that i think didn't work would be they need to explain more who the little boy is at the end, i understand that he's supposed to be Stan 2.0 but i don't quite get who he is. Other than that i think that this video is very clever and worked well.
