Barnardo's - Life story of an abused child - 8.
Charity: Barnardo's
Campaign: Life Story
The ideologies that Barnardo's have is that children don't always have to live through the trauma that they have from when they were a child, and that Barnardo's is there to help children who started their life being abused by an adult. Just because the children have no parents to turn to, doesn't mean that no one will give them hope, and a chance, to live their life the way they should. The trauma and the anxiety that the abused kids have from when they were younger turns into younger, and just because foster parents give up on the child, doesn't mean that no one will take them. Bernard's is there, acting as a father figure to abused kids, who will take them in, and help them, and make the go back onto the the right path in life. At the start, the child was upset, and scared of what his dad was doing to him, the middle was a time lapse of the child growing up, but getting more and more maturer as he got older because of help Barnardo's gave him. It proves that Barnardo's campaign can clearly have a big effect on children, but they need more donations to help more children who have been abused when they were younger.
The character's in the advert starts off with a young adult, approximately 25 years old, who describes his life. It seemingly starts off happy, he has a wife, settled down and has a kid. But when he mentions the nightmares and his face goes out of the shot for a second, a new character arises, this time younger man, about 22, describing how much better he feels, and how his problems that he once had are no longer a problem. The third character, again, a younger version of the one at the start, this time about 19, describes how the Barnardo's "one" presumably the carer he has, is the best one he's had as they talk a lot, showing that the Barnardo's carer's are the best carers around, and they truly understand who the child feels and they can help them advance into a good person in the future. The end scene of the third character however shows glimpses of anger when he says about "everyone else can do one" showing that the problems are still with him and it will take a long time for them to clearly go from his head. You can clearly see at this point how effective Barnardo's has been, because he only briefly mentions them in this scene, so he must have only just met them, and the effect that they have had on his life has been a big one.
The audience at this point are starting to realise the plot of the advert, and how the time lapse is going backwards, showing how poorly behaved he was prior to meeting the carer from Barnardo's. The audience are starting to feel a personal connection, as the camera angle s acting as if the character is talking to them, almost like a face-to-face chat with the teen. The enigma codes start to happen with the audience, "Why is his behaviour getting worse? What started all of this?" The audience are getting attached to the character, and they are starting to feel empathetic for him. The very end scene with the youngest child, is really sad because the boy, only aged 5, shows how young abuse can start to children. The extreme close up shows the true emotion in the boy's face, the watery eyes shows how much he has been crying and how fearful he is of his dad, and no one is there to help him end the abuse.
The encoders don't use many shock tactics in the advert, up until the last scene, the audience are shocked to find out hoy young this man was when he started getting neglected and abused, but the constant twists in the advert keep the audience wanting to watch on, as very time a twist occurs, ore enigma codes our into the audiences mind, making them want etch on find out how it all started.
