Ideologies:

The specific ideology promoted here is that there are worse things than cancer. Due to very little media coverage and funding for specific illnesses most people don't hear of things worse than cancer. So the use of the main line "I wish my son had cancer." gives shock to the viewer in the fact that cancer is shown as such a horrible disease.

Visual and Narrative Techniques:

I feel that this image expresses alot of emotion with the small space used. The use of a desaturation in the screen gives the picture a more somber tone as it shows the situation as bleak like the image. This is supported by the mournful expression on the father's face. The use of a father and son may apply to quite a lot of parents in a personal level and therefore can relate but I believe that people who do not experience this kind of structure in their family may still be able to sympathise just from the emotion in the image.

Advertising Techniques:

The use of love and belonging as a line of appeal is used showing a family thats in distress because of a terrible illness. I believe the use of a greyscale image may be able to attract attention in its diversity. The title of the poster is also a good attention grabber just by how unusual of a statement is. The shock and abnormality of the statement combined works well.

What works:

The use of colour in the image to symbolise a specific tone in the scene I believe makes it a great image. The use of a shocking title works well as it may catch people observing off guard.
The portrayal of a family is very good in the fact that it applies itself to an audience and makes it relatable whilst still being able to gain the sympathy of people who may not live in the same situation.
