Text:Pride
Question:Genre

Essay: Pride is a film that’s is hard to put into a genre. Is it a comedy film with a serious message? Or , Is it a serious film with funny scenes? In my opinion its is a serious film that focusses on real events that approach the subject of important social issues that occurred such as the Lesbian and Gay Community and also the Miners Strike of S '.84 Between these topics there are numerous scenes that provide the film with a light-hearted feeling and tone. For example, the Ball Room scene. Things scene is when the flamboyant Johnathan Blake takes over the working men's club and dances to 'Shame, Shame, Shame'. This song provides irony onto the scene as it is commenting on the shame that Reggie and Ray cannot dance and therefore will not win the girls. The irony is that before this scene they viewed LGSM as the ones who should have shame because of the choice of sexuality/. It is clear to see in the scene that it is only ever the women who take part in the dancing and never the men. Johnathan's personality is light-hearted and carefree during this scene which is a juxtaposition to the sober , emotionless, static miners who are stand sitting around the cart sipping on their pints of beer. Reggie and Ray are standing at the end of the bar cringing at the sight of Johnathan's 'dad dancing'. Whereas Johnathan is none the wiser about it as he is taken by the music and by his nostalgic love of disco ' God I miss disco' The shot reverse shot throughout the scene reinforces the juxtaposition between the two groups and shows that Johnathan is completely oblivious to the looks he is receiving for his dancing. The dramatic slow motion shot emphasises just how much he misses that era of music.some sequences have a choreography to them and a feel of being part of a musical. Especially when Johnathan walks on the table and all of the men simultaneously remove their pints out of his path. Another comedic element to this scene is when Gwen and Hefina are dancing with Johnathan. The reason for this is because they are dancing in a way that would not be considered to a way in which older women would dance.
