In the video game, Gears of War, the character Marcus Fenix is shown to reinforce the ideology of male strength. Marcus Fenix is shown as a very buff and muscled man and is the active character to the story line. The game Gears of War, features many other male characters, however, any characters that are irrelevant to the lead male tend to often be the subject of discovery, often stumbling into open areas and dying violently in order to help the main character establish an understanding and is used to strengthen character development. In the game, the members of the COG army, more specifically Dominic Santiago, fight with armour that has the arms of the wearer exposed. This emphasises the muscles of the wearer which emphasises the strength of the characters.
The title of the video game, Gears of War, has the connotations that men are exactly that, they are the subjects of war and violence and their sole job is to fight. Even the division that they fight in is called COG which reinforces this connotation.
