The article links the success of online news sites and an interest into news to the use of social media; Morrison states that the 'trend' of internet users hearing about a breaking news story on social media before mainstream news drives them to use news sites. She cites that in 2009 'social media buzz has resulted to 57 percent increase in traffic to news sites'. This point implies that social media has influenced an interest and demand for news due to the speed it is able to deliver it at and, perhaps, the form it is delivered in. Which I agree with as technology is increasing in popularity and, as a result, having news delivered via technology will encourage people to pay attention to it.
