http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/3776923/Romantic-comedies-make-us-unrealistic-about-relationships-claim-scientists.html

I chose this article because i am a big fan of romantic comedies and enjoy the genre of film and it questions my views and my opinions and goes against what i would usually think.

the article was written by Richard Alleyne, Science Correspondent for the daily telegraph. the article challenges the viewers opinions and states that the idea of romantic comedies sets our standards for real life relationships that are impossible to reach therefore leave us disappointed and  unrealistic about our futures with our partners.

"Unlikely happy endings, improbable plots and faux philosophy are to blame"
" warped sense of the "perfect" relationship"
"oversimplifying the process of falling in love"
"Films do capture the excitement of new relationships but they also wrongly suggest that trust and committed love exist from the moment people meet, whereas these are qualities that normally take years to develop."

After reading this article i am more swayed to the idea that Hollywood films are unrealistic and have an over romanticized version of love that is a lot more complex in reality however despite this i believe it comes from truth and is just exaggerated to make them more emphatic stories for the viewers. there is some truth with in the article that expectations are automatically set higher due to the fact the media has influence over our expectations and throughout process however we are all aware that this is film and therefore shouldn't get carried away with the fact this does not 100% reflect society. i agree with my last quotation completely as it creates the idea that you fall in love with some one bases on looks and the first impression which can be the case however you cant build a relationship on attraction and as the article states it is a long process where you must build this trust and commitment that can take years, unlike a few days and weeks in Hollywood films.

My overall opinion of this article is that it speaks some truth in it despite my former preconceptions and opinions and it has made my question what i wit hold about romantic comedies and think about that actual affects and how they are created and manipulated to create an unrealistic world and standards that no one can live up to in an attempt to diminish real life relationships.
